Google Just Made It Harder to Mine Cryptocurrency with Chrome
Google has had enough of Chrome browser extensions that mine cryptocurrency using the processing power of users’ computers.
The company had already been taking down extensions that mine cryptocurrency without informing the extensions’ users—a practice known as cryptojacking. But now it’s targeting any extension that runs similar code, whatever the intentions of the people behind the plugin.
“Until now, Chrome Web Store policy has permitted cryptocurrency mining in extensions as long as it is the extension’s single purpose, and the user is adequately informed about the mining behavior,” Google product manager James Wagner wrote in a blog post.
“Unfortunately, approximately 90% of all extensions with mining scripts that developers have attempted to upload to Chrome Web Store have failed to comply with these policies, and have been either rejected or removed from the store. Starting today, Chrome Web Store will no longer accept extensions that mine cryptocurrency.”
The issue with such extensions is that their activity uses up a lot of the computer’s processing power, leaving less for the tasks that the user might be trying to actively perform on their PC. It’s also an electricity hog—the reason why some say Bitcoin mining is no longer profitable.
Most cryptomining extensions and sites are tailored to generate a cryptocurrency called Monero, which supports such activity in its design.
Wagner explained that Google would start delisting cryptocurrency-mining extensions in late June.
Does this mean web-based cryptomining is dead? Google’s Chrome has a browser market share of well above 50%, so the move will have some effect. However, it doesn’t stop websites themselves from mining cryptocurrency in people’s browsers—either surreptitiously or openly, as some media companies have been trying out as an alternative to making money through advertising.

Worse, it is copied word for word. this is ridiculous.
Very unethical mate. And it got rewarded heavily. My opinion -the reward is undeserved.
Steemit is premised on rewarding original content, not plagiarized work. You are earning from some one else's work. That is unfair, no?
The content is obvioulsy good. But it is not yours.
And thus to show my disagreement, i am downvoting you. This is the first downvote i am making. And it breaks my heart. I wish to at all times use my small voting power, three quarters of which is by the way delegated to me by some wonderful steemian @simplymike, for supporting not negating. But on this particular case, i am sorry you leave me no choice.
I am a writer, and i would be hurt if someone stole my work and earned from it, moreover without crediting me.
You have not even made refernce to the author. I can't forgive that. I can't condone such blatant plagiarism, in large part because i find it to be harmful to stemit, which, i want to believe, is important to all of us, for community, and for earning.
As a show of good faith however, i am following you so we may share and learn together, in case copy-pasting someone's else work here was a mistake.
Edited - And now you muted me! Learn to take advice mate, it is invaluable here, i am told. indeed, i personally now testify to it, given my experience of the last few days. I am still following you!
DELETED
This is wrong, my friend. Not becoming at all.

It will also make it easier and more profitable for honest miners to reap a profit.

Probably a big step towards a smaller carbon footprint that Bitcoin mining leaves in its wake...

Oh my God! This is like copy/pasting word for word.
288 words here for 288 words from link @mirror gives. even fullstops!
@originalworks
gira gira HAHAHAHAHAH !
I am glad you have tried to edit the work, and include a link to the source after i earlier commented.
That is a good start. But it is still not enough, and does not qualify you for the reward. You plagiarized David Meyers work, copying word by word.
Now adding his name down doesn't change that.
Overall, plagiarism is bad. Like i said, i am a writer, and would love to see my work plagiarized this blatantly.
You must not do it again.
I dont have to ask to republish uncopyrighted content black lady :)
All content is born copyrighted under US law.
Thanks for helping @specklemouse. I find it difficult to believe that somebody can copy word for word another persons work, then even after being shown the folly of it, remain adamant.
He has copy word for word, not even changing fullstops. 288 words in the post and even in the original source....
Maybe i should also copy/past and get big upvote
You pay attention to detail! lol. Tanks mate.
Otherwise avoid the same behavior. It gets penalized. And those who upvote you big withdraw.
Better to create your own content. And if you should earn, earn from it.
Fuck you and the community black bitch :*
