Hi, guys and girls! Surely throughout your life you have suffered the Déjà Vu phenomenon once. Have you ever wondered what déjà vu is exactly? Today we are going to talk about this, let's see what psychology says about this topic.

The Déjà vu, is a phenomenon very suffered but unknown at the same time because we do not know why it happens.

The word "Déjà vu" is of French origin, and translated into Spanish it would be "already seen". Déjà vu is considered a type of paramnesia (they are alterations that are characterized by the distortion of memories).

It is considered that 6 out of 10 people have lived the phenomenon at least once in their lives, the sensation that Déjà vu gives us is that they have already experienced that situation that we are seeing, it is a feeling of familiarity with the environment and Same rarity time, like we're off the plane.

The frequency that the Déjà vu has throughout a life is from the age of 8 that increases until the age of 30 that begins to decline. Between these ages it is very frequent to have it, from these it begins to diminish, for that reason it thinks that it is related to factors of the development of the brain.

The phenomenon is very difficult to study because it can not be controlled or induced, but if you have 3 "main" theories that try to explain it (of course there are many more theories):

1) Flat Object: It tells us that when we are in a situation and pay close attention to an object everything else vanishes to the point of completely forgetting about the other planes. When we return to our state of normal attention it seems that we see everything for the first time, but as we have seen before our brain creates a state of conflict and that is why we have this feeling.

2) Memory: We have two types of memories: short-term memory and long-term memory. When we live something, the memory is stored in the short-term memory, if it is an irrelevant memory we forget it but, if it is relevant, it passes to the long-term memory. But if this irrelevant memory suffers a short neurological circuit can directly go to long-term memory, so something that has just happened gives us the impression of having already lived.

3)Synchronization with the Occipital Lobe: It is the most complex theory. In the back of the brain we have the occipital lobe, which is responsible for processing visual information. When we receive the information, it has to pass a highway to reach the occipital lobe. It may happen that some biochemical change of those moments cause the information to stop in the middle of the road and is stored in memory, when it returns to circulate it reaches the occipital lobe but out of synchrony because the event is already in memory, that's why you have the The feeling of having seen it before because you really saw it before, but your brain processes it later.

It is known that there are people with more tendency to suffer Déjà vu than others, but we do not know why. Can this be a danger to the person? NO, but if it is frequently and affects your quality of life then we could be talking about a pathology related to dementia, but these cases are very rare and unique.

I hope you liked this topic as much as I did. See you very soon!
