An Untelevised Revolution
If you’ve browsed to this article from the modern world, you may have heard that “the revolution will not be televised” (originally a poem and song by Gil Scott-Heron). So you may be wondering, where is this revolution? When will it start? How will people know? If you look for it, you can see it is happening all around. Of course, if you look for the lack of it, there is plenty of that to be found as well. For now, however, let’s focus on the existence of the revolution.
Unlike in the old days, we can no longer look to one individual to rally the masses. No longer can the general public focus on one being to be the voice of everyone. There are simply too many people now, too many different voices. It is a cacophony of sound, though some of those sounds are coming from separate symphonies that are harmonious in their own right. One such symphony that I’d like to introduce today is called Earth Nation.
Earth Nation is a network-based revolution. It is composed of individuals acting on their own accord, but are united by certain compatible philosophies. One such philosophy is that of universal basic income, which Earth Nation is working toward and offers some options including completing tasks that help Earth Nation to run. Another such philosophy is that it is our responsibility to help the environment, which can be done in part using permaculture techniques – a sustainable farming model. In fact Earth Nation has a broad network of permaculture-based eco-villages accessible by its members. Other philosophies for a better world include social justice, shifting the dominant paradigms, and empowering individuals to work from their own inspired center of self.
Earth Nation is but one example of a quiet revolution taking place. It has loosely been in the works for a decade, and only in the last few years are they broadening in public affairs. There may be something of a pattern of exposition, followed by an assessment of success. This is then followed by a time of renewed strategy, always keeping in alignment with core values. Each time Earth Nation launches a new project or series of new projects, it is bigger, bolder, and has greater success and outreach than the last. It is like a growing tide, wave after wave. This spells good news for anyone that has grown unhappy with the status quo. It is also an opportunity to “be the change” by getting involved.
Earth Nation doesn’t have a leader, but it does have a body of vote holders. These voteholders are vetted by the current members, but really could be anyone who displays the passion and aligned values of the movement. Most members of Earth Nation are not vote holders, which is really an added level of responsibility that doesn’t appeal to everyone. Instead, other members are free to associate and participate in Earth Nation to whatever degree they so desire. If there is one project that interests you, but not another, you can choose to only be involved in the one you feel inspired by. Knowing that working on something a person would rather not do results in inefficiency, manipulation, and perhaps even illness, these constructs of the old paradigm are being left in the past. Instead members are encouraged to work on what inspires them, which helps the entire organization to thrive.
And this my friends, is one element of the new paradigm happening on a macrocosmic level.
