I just realized I might have major depression.
Yesterday Google+ was deleted. It caused me extreme grief as I watched throughout the final hours as everyone said their last goodbyes. No one knew what time it would end. We knew it was going to be deleted on April 2nd for several months beforehand. Then suddenly it happened.
First the newsfeed would no longer refresh new posts on the app. Then l could only see cache'd data. The browser version only showed this message.
Then suddenly I saw new posts from the community 'Hell', and I hoped for the slim to none chance that it wasn't really going away. Then it all ended for good. There is still a tiny bit of profile information accessible on my app, including the communities I was a member of, and the collections I was following; but most posts won't open. The majority of the site says "no connection."
Google+ was never my favorite social media site. It had deplorable spam algorithms and penalized everyone who used the site legit. I was active on it every day for many years. I made a lot of friends who I will never see again, and it hurts. It really does. A lot of communities and users migrated to MeWe. Google+ was always my go to site for discovering music I've never heard before. My absolute favorite group on the entire interweb Hard&Heavy 60's-90's moved there.
I first joined Steem with the account @xsrian-cooking in late December, 2017. I no longer use that account since I changed my brand name to XSgreen. During the first 2 1/2 years I was producing food videos, I always said and texted in my Youtube videos "find the complete recipe on Google+." Those videos cannot be edited. Since I joined steem and switched food accounts, this is where I've been directing my followers to find the recipes. @xsgreen-cook is a library of recipes with express videos on DTube and longer, more descriptive videos embedded via YouTube. I don't resteem or post anything on that account except for that format.
Years of people's collections and communities they built and the followers they gained were all deleted in a flash.
I really don't like Google Inc. I invested over $15,000 into my cooking show including thousands to Adwords to promote my videos on YouTube. I joined Steem just in time. Around new years 2018, 3 of my 4 videos got flagged and demonetized by their bot for not being suitable for advertisers. Anyone who watches my videos knows they're about as unsuitable for advertisers as fucking Mr. Rogers. For some reason the one video that didn't get flagged in that series has been getting more than 200 organic views every day for the past 13 months. Then a month later they demonetized all my videos for not having enough subscribers or watch time.
Despite my very dark feelings for Google, I will always truly miss Google Plus. Unlike facebook and all the other social media sites, not one time did I ever receive random unprovoked grief from random users. Not even once. The media says G+ was a ghost town, but every active user knows there was never a dull moment in their feed. It had more users than LinkedIn, and they killed it! I don't really consider Steem social media. It's more of a blogger site. There aren't groups you can link drop a music video and the community would be alright with that. I'm a strong man, but losing that many people from my life who I've known for so long because of an evil corporation and their unstable decisions isn't easy to deal with. I'll be alright. Life goes on.
Google+ was certainly a lot better than Facebook and Twitter. This video is an accurate description of G+ users yesterday at the very end of an unforgettable era. The whole community was online when it happened. RIP
I'm reminded of the day's on Yahoo user created servers; I was in a poetry group; wrote on and off for over a year. The creator of the server passed away, and with that, the group was gone. Nothing backed up...
Not a good analogy, as I am not really a poet, and surely didn't pay for any services. But I feel your pain in regards to deletion...
No Matter

Sorry about that, but Google+ had informed all her users since January about her intentions to delete the app.
