How welcoming is steemit as a community?

So far I would have to say that its a pretty welcoming community as fas as people respecting other peoples cultures and languages.

Right now most languages are separated through tags, I have visited steemit through a VPN from various places around the globe and I'm always directed to the usual steemit. Not like other websites that automatically switch language according to location. This brings up something interesting.

Tolerance

How will the community react once more people start joining steemit and using it as a tool for movements.
Movements such as the Immigrant Rights, BLM, Environmental, LGBTQ, etc..
Would the community respect their personal views and beliefs and support them, or will some in the community turn against such folks based solely on what they are fighting for?

Growth

With the joining of several human rights movement to steemit, there would be a decent amount of coverage and word of mouth that would make steemit grow and get its name out there.

What do you think?
How do you think steemit will look like one year from now?

I am honestly interested in hearing what all of you have to say and would love some feedback in the comments.

I've written some stuff on LGBT issues and it has been welcomed. I haven't seen any more aggressiveness than on the rest of the internet.

A while back I read how someone suggested that we needed the ability to mute tags, I think that would be a wonderful way to deal with separating languages. Users would have the choice to hide certain subjects based on the tags, this could even be a paid feature.

I think the incentive structure of Steemit encourages tolerance. Or at least encourages a safe and civil way to express yourself.

It's possible to disagree with people though even if you're tolerant. But with more civil and respectful discussion about it (which I think Steemit encourages), the disagreement is actually useful, and helps guide people towards whatever makes the most sense, and thus a better world.

One day we may coexist.... one day.. (:

Great community feel for me. Very supportive and encouraging and its generally a nice place to share.
