The reality of living statues

in #life7 years ago (edited)

Wherever I go I see those statues.

People made of cold stone standing at the same places every day. No ambitions, no dreams, no goals, no struggle to make it better. Statues that made peace with the ugly side of so called destiny.

So, are you a person or a statue?

A statue will never fight for better and accepts things as they are. Statues don't believe in themselves, so that's the major reason for them standing on the same places the most of their lives. But, believe or not, those statues are talking! They are complaining all the time and nagging all the time but with no ambitions to change the things.

Let me tell you an example of these living statues.

I know this guy whole my life.

We are about the same age and we used to play together when we were kids. He was so active as a kid, a sportsman, always for action. When we were 14, we started to go out and drink alcohol with the rest of the crew. That was just a phase that all teenagers had to pass, I suppose. Maybe somewhere else is different, but here, when you are 14-15, you think that all is allowed to you and that you are bigger and stronger that anything. That feeling can encourage you to try bad things, taking drugs, dealing drugs, stealing money from parents, crashing cars, escaping from the home...
Well, we are all a little bit crazy when we are young but in some moment, a person realizes that he must move on. You start thinking about your future and you want to do something with your life.

But not my friend!

After more that 17 years, he stands on the same place, drinking the whole day with some guys, all between 20 and 70 years old. And they are statues.
I don't see that the guy changed anything in his life since he was a child. He never had a girlfriend, never thought about finding a better job. He sleeps in the same little room where he was sleeping as a school kid. I know his parents, they have a lot of problems of their own and he is causing even more problems to them.

When you talk to the guy, you notice that he is empty.

Red eyes when you see him in the morning, toddling and vomiting when you see him in the evening. People he spends his time with are not much different, but they maybe have different reasons for their behavior.
Many of them who are older than us, were fighting in the war and that experience doesn't make nice memories. Many of those guys came in front of this mini market right after the war, 23 years ago, and they still haven't moved from there. The most of them are divorced, living with parents and drinking all days.
It's kinda sad when you meet a person that knows that he lives miserable but he doesn't wish to change anything! And he never has something new to say.

There are many reason for existence of these statues in my country.

I already mentioned the war, it left the mark in so many people. It also affects younger generations and that is sadly, many people live in the past so they do not have the future. The second big reason is really fucked up situation in this asshole of the planet. Banks rule over the people's lives, taking everything they have, their homes, their dignity and ambitions. It is really hard to find the job if you don't have proper education, so you end up in front of that mini market drinking the whole day with also fucked up people talking about how miserable they are - and you become one of them. So their lives are only about drinking, mocking and complaining about their lives, but they didn't do a thing to change it! Now, when it is too late, they realized who they were once upon a time ago. So my friend will always say how he was great soccer player as a young boy and that he could have a future... come on, I have heard a thousand of these stories, but never from someone that actually made something with his life!

It is not about your life situation. It's just about you and how you deal with things. Make your influence on the environment!

Thank you!

the story of a very statue is a statue, although he stood in the same place throughout his life he will not change, unlike humans, if forever he stood in the same place, finished his life. ..
Nice post, greetings from me @dumar022

@dumar022 - Cool outlook man. True - some people are just like statues. It is indeed sad to see people who have no desire to change anything about their lives.

Your friend's story is just typical of those of millions of other well around the world who have failed to take control of their lives. Insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results. That is your metaphorical description of him as a statue is very fitting. Thanks @dumar022

Thanks :)))

Sadly I think these living statues live in every country and are sad to see they are missing out on so much living in their own safe little shell

And in todays age there seems t be more and more of them very sad really

The grocery store syndrome.

Not really a technical term. We have a lot of these people or better groups in front of the grocery store drinking and pissing away their days. Every neighborhood in every city all over the country has this phenomenon. All people of different ages and backgrounds but with the same problem. I know a few myself we are friends grew up together. It is sad to watch them wither away. And most of them can not be helped.

Grocery store syndrome! :) You're right, they can't be helped

Yes a lot of sad and wasted lives out there. And plenty of excuses. I would think very few turn their lives around after hitting the bottom. Wish we could do more for these people.

They don't want it. So...

That is it, they have to motivate themselves.

I'm a person...

Sad people... but I don't think it's country-related... there are living statues everywhere.
