Virtual, augmented or insane reality?

Every single human being on this planet most of the time lives in 2 dimensions.

I'm not telling it is boring but just because it feels so familiar, we tend to ignore the beauty of it.

However recently two more realities have been created that are begging for our attention: virtual and augmented.

Virtual reality.

Let's start with virtual. I believe that it is a very huge marker, very promising but it's not ready yet for the consumer side.

Just over a few weeks ago I got my 360fly camera which shoots 360 videos in 4k. I thought it was kind of cool to create such new type of content. People love it, so do I.

What I found though is that it's not that cool. You can get used to walking around with a ball pointing in the sky which in itself makes me feel awkward.

But if you can get through this stage, get ready for extreme sounds of your computer cause it will be so overloaded, you have no idea.

Thus, it is fascinating to create such content but as of now it's just not practical:

• The prices of VR headsets are quite high (you can buy a cardboard but there's a quality trade-off).
• The absence of good quality content is obvious, and the cost of production is huge.
• Frequent unpleasant physical responses of your body.
• Your laptop is not capable running 360 videos without struggling yet, especially 4k. It will take 2-3 years to embed such processing power for an average laptop.

On the other hand, there are some awesome innovations and developments:

• The first VR + AR social media network from Mark Zukerberg Spaces is in beta already. It requires to have Oculus Rift but if you can afford yourself, you can definitely check it out.
• The speed of hardware improvements is pretty rapid so it can really take just a couple of years to get there, maybe even less.
• Cameras are becoming cheaper year after year.

Augmented reality.

The next type of reality is even cooler. Augmented reality or AR for short is the thing that will totally go crazy and I believe it will be used at scale by millions of people throughout the globe.

By having an ability to add new objects in top of our world, we can increase the depth of understanding of how things work, simplify the process of teaching our children, travel to the places that we couldn't travel to (with the combination of virtual reality), simulate immersive trainings in surgery, military and so forth, establish a new way or maybe even a standard of communication on the long distances, and the biggest gains that I see is obviously marketing - it will be way more awesome than it is right now.

It is massive, massive opportunity and I suggest you seriously consider looking into it.

Insane reality.

There's also a reality that very few people know about. It is the reality in which we're living right now. I call it insane reality.

The reason why it is insane is because it is real. It is a real reflection of our life right now. Technologies became a mandatory component of our lives.

I'm telling you, this particular post has been written on my smartphone during the recent trip to Vinnitsia.

The most important though is to be in control of your time. You don't want something that has no emotions eat up your life. Make sure you live your life, not respond to the needs and notifications our devices present to us.

In any case, no matter how dependent we become, we can absolutely decide to enjoy what virtual, augmented or insane reality bring to us. The key is to make a conscious decision, that's all you have.
