Festive seasons in Nigeria has always been seen as a time to increase prices of commodities but one product which does not naturally increase in price during this time is Petrol. The manufacturers who have been frustrated by this has devised a mean of causing a hike in price by creating artificial scarcity. Petrol stations deliberately stop selling petrol and the following week you hear on the news that PENGASSAN is on strike!!

When this happens Nigerians wake up early the following day to buy petrol from the petrol station only to create a queue that can last for hours. When petrol stations get tired of the queue some of them close which leads us to buy from black market which is a source of adulterated petrol which makes engines release a large volume of Carbon monoxide into the atmosphere which is partly responsible for climate change and if inhaled is harmful to humans.

The current scarcity of petrol is a plot by the FG to increase the price of petrol from 145 naira per litre to 185 naira. Ekiti state Governor Mr Ayodele Fayose accuse the Federal Government of been insensitive to the plight of Nigerians, He also said that " petrol is scarce across the country because the FG deliberately reduced the supply since it is only the Nigerian National Petroleum Coperation (NNPC) that is importing the product"
The most amusing thing is that the Minister of Petroleum who is responsible for the production, importation and supply of petrol is the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria Mohammed Buhari is not blamed for the scarcity instead the Minister of State for Petroleum Dr Ibe Kachikwu is not only blamed but given an ultimatum of One week to end the scarcity. In this part of the due process is rarely followed unless it favours the minorities in position of power.
