The two people, whose opinion you should value (Part 1)

Where have I been?

You are probably wondering who these people are and why are they so important. I think and normally share with my friends that the people’s opinion about us is none of our business. We don’t have to care and put too much energy in trying to impress the others as in the same time we feel empty inside..

However, there are some people who might help us in evaluating and bettering ourselves and their opinion should be important for us.

Recently I watched a really good video about somatic intelligence (I will share more about it in another post). The woman there explained how she manages to balance what’s going on in her body and she did it while imagining that she meets her younger version and holds her hands. In that time, she tries to give her energy and lifts her up. But why is she meeting exactly this character?

We often don’t see how much progress we make and our look is always turned into the direction of the future. We constantly imagine ourselves in 2, 5 or 10 years and that’s something we have been doing that our whole lives. That’s why one of the people’s opinion we should appreciate is of our 10-years-old version.

Most of the time, we are unsatisfied with our lives, jobs, personal and professional development. In these moments, I ask myself “Ok, so I had a vision a few years ago and of course, with the years it shifted a bit. However, I am following my main plan and having my small wins but how do I actually see if I reached the level I wanted to?”

There are no numbers, to-dos or evaluation papers we can fill and check if we got where we actually wanted to be. Some of our goals don’t have an ending destination but will be most likely working on them during our whole life and we will never be in the position where we feel like we have achieved them. Or maybe we can be?

In that case, why don’t we try to meet our 10 or 12 years self?

We can just sit down, relax and try to imagine ourselves a few years ago. What were our dreams, vision and goals? How did we imagine ourselves back then? We can look at our younger version and recognize all the vulnerability and fears we had back then. We can smile and appreciate everything we went through, thinking about the moment where we are and we were. Are we satisfied we with the result, comparing to where we were? Did we actually achieve what we were imagining we will? Looking through our younger version’s eyes, do we feel excitement seeing us the way we look and are now?

This is one of the ways which can help us evaluate our development and appreciate everything we achieved in order to get there. After meeting this small person, we will be able to feel so thankful for everything we have done in order to be who we are today.

However, our personal evaluation should not stop after the look at the past. We should also have a look in the future in order to plan how to go even further……
