Crisis in a hospital.

Yesterday I took the night shift In one of the public hospitals of my city. I'm a med student in the fifth year and one of the assignments of my classes is spending three nights in the traumatology emergency at the hospital.

When I came in to the emergency room I found reality. People sleeping on the floor waiting for someone to help them, injureds for car accidents, gunshots , and more.

But this is normal right? at least in several countries in america, that is what you could find in an emergency room. The shocking part is that the hospital doesn't have anything to treat their injured or sick people.

The drawers, the cabinets in the whole building are empty. There is no anestesia, painkillers, alcohol, hydrogen peroxide, gauzes, cotton, antibiotics. Think in the most basic supply in a health center, and no, you wouldn't find it. The hospital has become a ghost building filled with patients and doctors with almost nothing to do. This war doctors work with their fingernails to help anyone they can, with the least the hospital and the government gives them...

And this is the reality of every hospital in Venezuela.

Ayer tomé la guardia en el turno de la noche en uno de los hospitales públicos de mi ciudad. Soy un estudiante de medicina del quinto año y una de las asignaciones de mis clases es asistir tres noches a la emergencia de traumatología del hospital.

Cuando llegué a la emergencia me encontré de frente con la realidad. Gente durmiendo en el suelo esperando por alguien que los tratara, heridos por accidentes automovilísticos, heridos por tiroteos y más.

Pero esto es normal ¿no? al menos en la mayoría de los países de america, esto es lo que podrías encontrar en una sala de emergencias. La parte aterradora es que el hospital no tiene absolutamente nada para tratar a sus heridos o enfermos.

Los cajones, los gabinetes en todo el edificio están vacíos in suplementos. No hay anestesia, calmantes, alcohol, agua oxigenada, gasas, algodón, ni antibióticos. Piensa en la cosa más básica que encontrarías en un hospital, y no, no la encontrarías en este. El hospital se ha convertido en un edificio fantasma lleno de pacientes y doctores sin casi nada que hacer. Estos doctores de guerra, trabajan con sus uñas para ayudar a quien puedan con lo poco que les provee el hospital y el gobierno...

Y esta es la realidad de cualquier hospital en Venezuela.
