In this post, I would share with you my takeaways from the CEO of Success Resouces, Richard Tan.

Richard is a very successful man. Despite his small body frame, his huge courage and never-give-up attitude took him to where he is today - He built a $100 Million Dollar Business.

He shared with us a couple of important principles:

1. Perseverance is key

2. Education is the Greatest leverage

3. Even if others cannot do it, that doesn't mean I can't do it!

Do allow me to share with you how he first invited Bill Clinton to be one of the speakers for Success Resources event!

Richard mentioned that after attending one of Tony Robbins's workshop, he gained an enormous amount of courage and faith in himself. Previously, he was very shy and reserved. However, after the workshop (especially the fire-walking) he felt that he was unstoppable. He took that strength and applied it to his business.

He thought to himself, "Who is the most powerful person in this world?" Immediately he thought of Bill Clinton. However, Singapore and Malaysia government have tried inviting him over but was rejected. Richard said this: "Even if others cannot do it, that does not mean that I can't do it!"

With his leap of faith, he booked a flight to find Bill Clinton. He waited for Bill Clinton at a hotel lobby for hours until he finally saw the ex-president. Bill Clinton was surrounded by bodyguards, despite that, Richard rushed forward and handed him an invitation letter to his event.

For every normal human being, after handing over the letter, they will naturally leave the venue. However, Richard did not. Not knowing why he stood there patiently, one of the bodyguards came out of the room and asked him, "Were you the one who passed the letter just now? The president wants to meet you."

That was how he scored a meeting with Bill Clinton and even invited him as a speaker.

This story resonates with me a lot because often enough, people just do the bare minimum or perform averagely. If you want to have a different/better result, you have to deviate from the crowd. Double down on your effort, work smart and put in more hard work.

Another important lesson was this:

He asked the crowd, "How much do you want to make in your lifetime?" "$100m?" "$10m?" "$1m?"

"Do you have something of that value to sell me?"

That woke me up!

then I witnessed how he sold 100 tickets (worth $990 each) within 10 minutes.

He has the network to successful speakers, a wonderful system in place, and an awesome team running the show; that was how he managed to make $99,000 in just 10 minutes.

If you want to make $10,000/$1,000/$100 in 1 sale, you have to figure out what kind of value can you provide to the buyer. It could be your experiences, your failures, your successes, your network of friends or even some sort of product or services.

He ended off with this cliche sentence which I think most successful people will agree, "Stop when you are done, not when you are tired."
