In the last part of the story we arrived back in The Pantanal and created our own mini tourist lodge with me volunteering as a translator to two french guests.

I wanted to show the contrast between the wet and dry seasons of The Pantanal. I talked about it briefly in our last Pantanal visit but these pictures highlight the need for multiple forms of transport and a knowledge of the seasons.

I was now making great friends with our two french guests who agreed to come and stay at our abandoned farm. None of us could believe the beauty of our intimate lodge as we woke up right next to the bend of the river as the sun moved higher up in the sky.

We had 3000 hectacres of land to explore and each morning and throughout the day we went looking for wildlife - when we saw something we’d get the binoculars out and keep as quiet as possible.

Another friend I made on this trip was this little owl. He came to say hello and hang around with us each day. I think our lodge was an old farm at one point, and this guy was obviously used to humans.

The owl didn’t mind us picking him up or sitting on my friends head!
