Sometimes I just want to watch the world burn

Ever had this feeling? I wonder...knowing what we know today, would we have built society differently? Like any empire, our world has reached a peak maybe 200 years ago and from there on, it all went and is still going downhill. Consumerism has destroyed the planet, equality and an individual's worth. We are now just cogs in a global self destructing system.

Wars were carried in the past for freedom, army vs army, man to man. Now, wars are carried out of greed, the rich are getting richer and the poor are cannon fodder. Whether you pick up a rifle and go to "free" another country for its resources or work to the death for some douche bag CEO, you are slowly dying. Depression it's on an all time high, veteran suicide rate the same and so on. The planet cannot sustain us anymore. For us to live a decent life, a billion people need to starve.

But we continue to buy stuff, to self medicate, to drink, just to become numb to the pointless lives that we lead and lie to ourselves that we are actually making the world a better place, that we can change, that we are not damning our children to a life of suffering.

Even if a pandemic, cataclysm or world war would happen, the only ones who will suffer are the normal people, because the elites already have their bunkers and plans to stay alive and retain power. I cannot honestly see any kind of hope for humanity. I think that we will see in our lifetime a global event that will affect each and every one of us. Will we survive it. Most of us probably won't. But we have a duty to ensure that next generations will. And for that, we need to start with the little things that make us human. Empathy, love, protection and a backbone to stand tall and say "this is not right", "we are not going to be denied", "we have a voice and you will hear it". If not, we deserve our faith and history will remember us as the ones who stood by and did nothing.
