The first post of the week, as you all know by now, is dedicated to the discovery of …us, Andrea and Arianna.
Today is my turn so, I decided to tell you about my Sunday spent discovering the wonderful Cliff of Rio Cozzi: this is an exceptional training place for those who, like me, really love climbing.

We are just a few kilometers away from Terra del Sole (FC), a place commonly known as the Città Fortezza; that’s because it was built, and entirely fortified, around the mid-1500s by the De Medici family to protect the borders of the Grand Duchy of Tuscany.

To reach the cliff, you must drive down to the Rio dei Cozzi Street.
Once there, in the large space that we find just in front of us, it is possible to park.
As soon as we arrive, we immediately see the first climbing area.
But be careful: it’s mostly composed of long and difficult trails that are suitable for advanced climbers only.

There are overhanging cliffs, composed of calcareous sandstone, a special rock known for its friability.
Continuing up the trail for a few hundred meters, we find a second climbing area hosting a dozen paths that reach 82 feet high.

From their top you can enjoy a magnificent landscape!

If you wanna plan a trip to this uncontaminated place, remember that beyond climbing you can practice other incredible activities such as speleological excursions or the slack-line.

Finally, I take this opportunity to introduce you to my inseparable and beloved travel friend: Alaska, a marvelous example of a two-and-a-half-year-old Border Collie.

I can certainly assure you that she’s the perfect dog for a hyperactive person like me: she’s always ready to venture out in the world and into the wild.

#6 LOOKAT_IT: IN CIMA!

Il primo post della settimana, come ormai saprete, è quello dedicato alla scoperta di noi due, Andrea e Arianna.
Oggi è il mio turno e ho deciso di raccontarvi di una magnifica domenica trascorsa alla scoperta della falesia di Rio Cozzi, eccezionale luogo di allenamento per chi, come me, ama l’arrampicata.
Ci troviamo a pochi chilometri di distanza da Terra del Sole (FC), località comunemente conosciuta col nome di Città Fortezza; questo perché fu costruita e interamente fortificata intorno alla metà del 1500 dalla famiglia De Medici per proteggere i confini del Granducato di Toscana.

Per raggiungere la falesia, bisogna andare fino in fondo a “Via Rio dei Cozzi”.
Lì, nel grande spazio che troviamo di fronte a noi, è possibile parcheggiare la macchina.
Appena arrivati scorgiamo subito il primo settore. Attenzione però: è composto per lo più da vie lunghe e difficoltose adatte solo a chi riesce a muoversi con tranquillità tra i gradi 6 e 7.

Le pareti sono a strapiombo, composte da arenaria calcarea, roccia nota per la sua friabilità.
Proseguendo per qualche centinaio di metri, troviamo un secondo settore ospitante una dozzina di vie. Queste raggiungono un’altezza di circa 25 metri e dalla loro cima è possibile godere di un magnifico paesaggio!
Se pensate di organizzare una gita in questo luogo incontaminato, ricordate che oltre l’arrampicata è possibile cimentarsi in altre incredibili attività come le escursioni speleologiche oppure la slack-line.

Colgo infine l’occasione per presentarvi la mia inseparabile e adorata compagna di viaggio: Alaska, un meraviglioso esemplare di Border Collie di due anni e mezzo.
Posso certamente assicurare che sia la razza perfetta per una persona iperattiva e sempre pronta ad avventurarsi nella natura.
