MENTORING FOR USEFULNESS

Parents are required to mentor their children in the bid to prepare them for greatness. So what does mentoring really mean?
Mentoring: Mentoring is one universal strategy of reproducing oneself in another (usually younger or less experienced) person. It has been identified as a great source of influence and inter-personal development. A mentor then is an experienced person, usually more mature, acting as an adviser. A mentor is a wise, trusted and dedicated tutor who will guide a child through the experiences of life , inculcate right values and reproduce wisdom, uprightness and godliness in the resultant adult.
Obviously a clear requirement of a good mentor is that he or she must have the right values and all traits and abilities sought to be inculcated in a child. As the saying goes, "you cannot give what you do not have." Thus parents or potential parents must first nurture in themselves the traits, principles and values they would love to inculcate into their children. This is especially so as children learn more from the lifestyle of their mentors than the instructions given.
