The tale of Ceylon tea
Tea is a"beverage" That every Sri Lankan enjoys at every day of life. A search made for the history of this wonderful drink, reveals that a man from Scotland, namely James tailor has originated planting Tea in Sri Lankan soil (Then Ceylon)
James Tailor was the son of a wheelwright. He was born on 29th march 1825 in a cottage called Mosspark on Mriboddo Estate in Kineordineshire, Scotland.
He had come to Ceylon on 20th February 1852 on the ship called "Sydney" at the age of 17.

tailor arrived on Mr. Pride "Naranhena Estate" (Now a division of Loolkandera and that time it was a coffee plantation), and Tailor stayed at Naranhena for about six weeks before he was sent to Woloya, the adjoining Estate (also a division of loolcandera)
In 1867, he cleared 19 acres of land, presently known as fi:No:07 and planted tea and five acres of this original tea is in existence even today.
During the No: 01st decade of Tailor's stay in Ceylon he showed a keen interest in many things such as wild beasts, his flower garden his coat and his beard, which he was mentioned in the letters written to his father.
Tailor remained Bachelor as this life. He took only one holiday during his 40 years stint of Loolcandera Estate and that too he had spent about fortnight in Darjeeling, studying tea. He had experimented by making tea in the veranda of his log cabin.
later, James Tailor designed a tea Roller run by a water wheel. and kept on producing more and more................
