Volunteering : Spreading love with mentally challenged children
It's our team 8th visit to IQ70plus home.
Usually we have different / similar activities planned every time we visit. And as Chinese New Year is drawing near, this round, our team planned on an Ang Pow lantern making session instead.
As we walked through the door, as usual, we were greeted warmly when we reached and some of the residents who are more able recognized us, smile and came to welcome us too. :)
FIRST ACTIVITY: Angpow Lantern making session with the Mild to Moderate Mentally Challenged Children
After a short mingle around, we started our ang pow lantern making session straight away. We taught some of the resident on how to turn the angpow packet into CNY decoration lantern. As some of them has lesser understanding, we had to guide them step by step while few of them can make do with simple guidance and supervision. Check them out below on their making process.
SECOND ACTIVITY: Spreading Love and Hope to the Severe Challenged Children / Residents
After spending some time with the mild to moderate mentally challenged children, we moved on inside the house to spread our love.
While some of these residents / children are born this way, some had went through very bad trauma, and some 'developed' it along the way as they grow up. As you may see in photos some are bed-ridden, some are tied as when they are free, they tend to hurt themselves badly, while some are just less responsive.
What we usually do, we will go around spreading our love to them. We talked to them, even though most of them may not response to you at all, or perhaps just playing tickle, or just give them a hug or stroke on the back. Everyone have their own way of showing their love. So it's pretty much freestyle here.
We are hoping these visits we have done had shown them that they are still very much being loved and cared by many.
THIRD ACTIVITY : New T-Shirt for Everyone This CNY
As part of Chinese New Year belief, wearing new clothes symbolizes fresh new start for the year. Special shout-out to Amanda, Evon, Anna, her sister and sister's colleagues, who bought and donated all these new T-shirt from Decathlon for all of the residents / children in IQ70.

Ming super happy with the gift !
Food and daily needs donation by kind souls to the center last Sunday.
FOURTH ACTIVITY : Dancing like nobody's watching
What can be better than ending the visit with dancing? This is one of their favorite song and dance - Let's do the chicken dance!
LAST ACTIVITY : Spend time chatting with them

Time for a Selfie moment
WHAT IS IQ70plus HOME ALL ABOUT?
As you may have seen on some photo above, IQ70plus home isn't the usual, old folks home nor orphanage. IQ70plus is a center for the mentally challenged children. There are also a few mentally challenged adult in the center too.
WHERE DO THESE CHILDREN COMES FROM?
Most of them are from single mom, and some parent come from time to time to visit their child. Unfortunately for some, after the parent place them here, they take it as they had washed their hands, and u don't really see them showing up at the center anymore to have a look at their child.
SPECIAL SHOUT-OUT
Susie - a lady with so much unconditional love. She is the main care taker of this center. Give her a pat on the back when you meet her.
THINKING OF GIVING THEM YOUR SUPPORT?
Other than donating items, it would be great if you can go and just spend some time with them. I am pretty sure they can feel your love and sincerity :)

If you are thinking to visit, please note that car park is limited. So make sure you are not blocking the road and parked safely.
END NOTE THOUGHTS :
Go with an open heart and open mind. Make no judgment. You might just find a whole new perspective of looking at life.

Thank you @bitrocker2020
This post warms my heart so much. You're an inspiration and an amazing example of a kind human being. I have fallen behind on volunteering and this post really reminded me how crucial it is to make time again. I'll be visiting Malaysia in a few weeks and your posts are making me even more excited to experience such a beautiful culture.
@mintpaperplane Yes, sometimes we do need to be reminded of many beautiful things in life. I am glad this post has served as an inspiration for you. And an early warm welcome to Malaysia. You will love our multi-culture experience here. There are many things u can explore here in Malaysia, and definitely be prepared for the awesome food we have here. :)
@carmenraec The food and people we meet on our adventures are what I'm looking forward to the most! Woohoo :)
You are doing an amazing job of putting a smile on their faces.
I love how you spread the love and it really inspires me to do the same.
thanks @joalvarez . Let's keep spreading love all over to whoever 😊
amazing work you're doing there! keep it up! seriously walking the talk. if it's possible I'm sure some of us would like to tag along someday! :)
Thanks @calebleejl yeah.. anyone is welcome !
Love the little robot drawn by Ming! Talented indeed!
Awesome activities and quality time well spent!!!
💕💖 💓 💗 ♨️
Yep ! The other robot he was drawing with the triangle face was actually a girl sitting opposite him, while the bigger round face is him.
oh... shouldn't have assumed it's a robot... sorry about this... my youngest daughter also draws robot-like self-portrait...
haha.. no need to say sorry. I was 'making fun' of his drawing when i was there also, he was laughing louder than I am, that's when he joke back at me saying i am 'smelly' . in the end we both laugh so much
😁😃😉
It's one thing to just give money or some donation but to spend time with them and to make them feel special must really mean a lot to them, especially since some of their parents don't visit... Keep up the amazing work!! Thanks for sharing.
Thanks @hoosain 😊
This is great. Very noble of you and the team to do this. I love Ming's sweet smile! Can really see our friend is really happy, ha-ha. Keep it up ya!
Thank you @killuminatic . Yeah Ming always have a very sweet smile. At one point he was telling me I was smelly to make fun of me or.. maybe I was smelly cos I sweat so much while hanging the angpow lantern up. But i am pretty sure i wasn't ! 😝
Maybe it's his way of telling you he likes you and his pressie! Ha-ha. I'll just have take your word for it that you really weren't lol.
hahahahaha... seriously i smell good ok
