January 31st's Super Blue Blood Moon
On Tuesday, January 31st, a super blue blood moon will be visible from Alaska, Hawaii, and northwestern North America in the early hours of the morning.
The moon is a supermoon because the event occurs during perigee: this is when the distance between the moon and the Earth is the least, so the moon will appear 14% brighter and have a diameter 7% bigger than normal. It's also a blood moon because it will be a total lunar eclipse. This is when the moon is completely in the shadow of the Earth, so it turns a reddish color. Finally, it's a blue moon because it's the second full moon of the month of January.

The event will be viewable in Hawaii and Alaska, as well as the Middle East, Asia, and Australia. If you live on the east coast, you can still see the event, but the window of time is much smaller.
