What to do with a Thief?

Bringing a slightly different story to the table today. Usually I would go on babbling about the wonderful world that is the Blockchain but I felt the need to raise awareness about something slightly different.

This morning at 3:30 am, 2 of 3 cars in my driveway had a few items stolen from them, along with a bit of cash. As these are only possessions, I am not to bothered by the loss. What I'm concerned about is the discomfort my family now feels knowing a stranger was riffling through their personal items, only feet from where they sleep. We were fortunate enough to catch the thief on our security camera. At the end of the video you can even see the thief walk up my neighbors driveway (at least they had the decency to not walk across the grass?) After copying the video, we tried to bring it over to the Police station. Unfortunately the local branch is closed for the night. At this point we will need to drop the video evidence off in the morning.

Now this raises the question. If they come back tonight, how would you handle the situation? I Have already setup another camera in the direction they came from. Other suggestions thus far seem to suggest tilting a very clean white hat.
