The volcano has a height of 2,451 meters above sea level (mdpl). The mountain that is in the highlands of Karo, North Sumatra has a long history as an active volcano.

Since 1600 the volcano has fallen asleep. But suddenly, active and erupted in 2010. The last eruption occurred in September 2013 and lasted until now.

The impact of the eruption of Mount Sinabung is remarkable. Thousands of people on the slopes of the mountain were forced to leave their homes and land.

The history of the great eruption Sinabung occurred on August 29, 2010, at around 00:15 pm. About 12,000 people were forced to evacuate. Mount Sinabung Ash tends to slide from southwest to northeast. Not only in Karo is affected by eruption, but the city of Medan is also covered with ash.

In 2013, Mount Sinabung experienced four eruptions. As a result of that event, the status of Mount Sinabung is raised to level 3 or Standby. After the activity in a few days is quite high, on 29 September 2013 the status is lowered to level 2 or Alert.

Sinabung is different from most other volcanoes in Indonesia. The government continues to give attention to the community around the location.
