Knitting Myself Back Together... Setting Intentions

Happy #Needleworkmonday!

KIMG6762-01.jpeg

Yesterday, I introduced a new series, Knitting Myself Back Together.

I am posting my first true entry here on #Needleworkmonday to give my fellow Needleworkers the opportunity to Follow Along .
I will post a weekly update with links at the bottom of my normal #Needleworkmonday posts, but I do not wish to overwhelm this wonderful tag with posts on my use of Knitting as a tool in my Healing.

I stumbled upon these words a few days ago. They bounced around in my head for a day or two and then found expression in my outer life when I discovered a bag tucked away with these old project bits and the remaining yarn.

. .. an opportunity for us to take what we have already worked on and use it in new and groundbreaking ways. The wheel needs no re-invention, it just needs to be put to modern use. ~Chani Nicholas

This quote immediately resonated with my Healing approach. I believe that the behaviors I am trying to change once worked, they just need some tweaking to fit my current life.

I believe that I have met the challenges of my life with my best self in each moment, I believe I have used the strengths and skills I was blessed with at birth to create what has been a successful life.

Today's Mediation Musings

Setting Intentions

KIMG6743-01.jpeg

This grouping of knit bits featured above represent many wonderful moments in my life.

I intend to Transform them into One new meaningful project to represent my progress along this Healing/Wholing path I am walking.

I intend to make time in my busy day to knit and think, my form of meditation.

I intend to share these Meditation Musings.

I hope my Musings may inspire another forward.

The Cable's Story

KIMG6763-02.jpeg

I chose to begin my new project shawl by using this Cable. I took this project on retreat with me back in 2011, with the purpose of using it to help me through the quiet times... the discussion times, and any other needed moments.

It was my first cable. I was using a yarn I had fallen in love with the moment I saw it, a blend of nettle and wool. I love how it turned out. A beautiful piece of work, and just the bit of handwork needed for a successful retreat.

So, with this bit of success in my hands I begin this next step of my Healing Journey.

KIMG6764-01.jpeg

I am currently taking note of what works in my life. As I begin to crochet an edging of single crochet around three sides of the cable, I reflect upon how boundaries are needed in knitting and in life.

I know that this is an area in my life that needs attention and adaptation.

From a solidly defined foundation created by these stitches my next step was to evenly pick up stitches to knit. The cable will become the long neck edge of a triangular shawl. It serves as the foundation of the body of the project. Picking up these stitches in a manner that allows the shawl to hang evenly is a key step in the success of this project.

I tried just randomly choosing them, eyeballing them if you will. The remaining edge of the cable not being a solid row proved too much to overcome with any grace to the transition. I ended up using a crocheted slip stitch chain inset just a bit along the edge. I then picked up my stitches to knit from this point.

Reworking a step multiple times is part of knitting. I am hoping to take this concept into my healing work as well.... Reworking an issue is part of life.

KIMG6763-01.jpeg

That's all for today, until next time be inspired in all that you do.

Beautiful colorful photos, and thoughtful, inspirational musings. I like that quote, too.

I have been looking forward to this series so thank you for letting us know it has begun. I love that quote and I love what you are doing. I love how you are taking pieces of your work from different time points in your life and combining them all into one as you reflect on life and focus on the road ahead. I hope the healing you are seeking comes :) This was a beautiful post and I love the colorful work you posted throughout!

Thank you for sharing with us~ 😊

The words about re-working resonated. I sit sometimes for hours knitting, or more frequently crocheting, and then unravelling and re-working as I learn new stitches, new techniques, new effects. Crochet requires quite a lot of intermittent focus, I've learned, otherwise it is easy to end up with more or less stitches than I intended. Travel well on your journey.

They are beautiful pieces of work @borrowedearth and I love the colours. I have never tried cable because it looks daunting. But I like seeing them made. Thank you for bringing us along your journey of healing.
