Deaf dog
9 years ago we got a small bundle of fur that we named Tizzy. After a week or two of total disregard of commands or calls, we thought she was just a stubborn one, but we persevered to no avail.
She was very young so looking back we gave her a lot of encouragement but still, nothing was working with her.
Looking back now how we did not see.
It amazes us now how we missed it.
To cut a long story short our new fur baby was stone deaf. this was something we had never considered or prepared for, we both went into total panic mode.
What do we do, how do we move forward, will she be able to live a normal life. The things going through our heads where endless.
So as you do, we headed to google to try and make sense of what we had taken on.
To be honest we were horrified at what we found, with most of the advice suggesting the one-way visit to a vet.
In our eyes, this was in no way an option, so search after search we gradually found little snippets of information and are we glad we did.
Ok Tizz took a little longer to train but she is now fluent in sign, except for the odd times when she turns her back on us with the 'if I don't see you, I can't hear you look'
But I can say hand on heart she has turned out to be a true star in our lives.
When people meet her they have no idea she is def as her response to body language and facial expressions is nothing short of amazing.
So 9 years on our little fur baby is still as lovable as ever and a real asset.
So if you find you self with a deaf dog, stick with it as the rewards are endless.
Ahhhh just one thing though she does insist on a lay-in in the mornings these days.
Smaller breeds mature faster than larger breeds.
