Bo0gieReviews Comics - Weapon X #19 (2017-) Who's In Charge Again? [Spoiler Free]
A well timed Russian themed cover and story in time for #WorldCup2018 no less.
I love every incarnation of the 'Weapon X' franchise for a culturally inappropriate reason; they always have a n * gga you love to hate on the team. Sometimes it's one, at other's it's two and it could even be 90% of the team who are morally reprehensive as in the case when they tried to kill Kid Apocalypse, Genesis. But that was another iteration of the team. The common thread that keeps themselves weaponised as 'X' is no matter who's on the team, they've succumbed to the torture of the Weapom X programme or are Wolverine or both!
Domino & Lady Deathstrike to the rescue, yeah?
Okay, so what now..?
Oh yeah, right. Well without delving too deep, Weapon X, in this iteration was formed by #Cyclops, (who was right!), when he needed a covert ops - read wetworks team to handle the problems our erstwhile #XMen couldn't or wouldn't. They took the name of the organisation that tortured and abused them as a means to use their pain (to create more, terminal pain, but) to estensibily do good.
Being essentially X-Men they're inevitably going to be globe trotting, thus in this adventure, for some Mutant related reason or other, we find them in Siberia where they 'buck-up' their longtime foe Omega Red and all heck breaks loose. Things are made unnervingly worse when Old Man Logan (OML) decides to put resident nutter, Sabertooth in charge of the entire operation. We can describe 'Tooth's methodology as -
Unethical
Unexpected
Uncomplicated
The first two factors you kinda expect, but Sabertooth is all about the shortest distance; no long-talking. If there's somewhere to go, he's getting there as the crow flies. He's, quite rightly, of the thinking, that if you're gonna be working with him, then you get what you're given!
Go #TeamSabertooth!!
His leadership, wileyness and surprisingly charismatic intelligence may just win you over...not so much James Proudstar AKA Warpath who has a distinctly more traditional view of our resident antihero.
Last issues Weapon X #18 when it all started
This ish we find out the REAL reason OML put 'Tooth in charge...and it's not looking good...
In Conclusion
A couple of interesting twists, a literal blood bath and some rewarding insight into Sabertooth's character.
