Munich diaries #2: A Pakistani-American love story and Nepalese food

Today was the last day of the Munich film festival and we watched a new movie called The Big Sick: a love story based on the real life love story of Pakistani actor Kumail Nanjiani and American wife Emily Gordon. You probably know Kumail Nanjiani from the hit HBO TV show Silicon Valley. I thoroughly enjoyed the movie, it was co-written by Kumail and Emily and my favorite parts were the clever dialogue and the actor performances. The banter was witty and adorable, the storyline of two people from very different ethnic backgrounds and families falling in love was realistic without being too dramatic. Despite one of the main protagonists (Emily) being in a coma for a significant part of the movie and the general family drama, the movie maintains a light-hearted and funny theme. I could relate to certain aspects of the storyline because (a) I am in an Indo-German inter-ethnic relationship, but more because (b) my own parents had an inter-religion "love marriage" against the wishes of their parents at the time, so they fought resistance and cultural backage to be able to be together. The cast was filled with familiar faces: Zoe Kazan, Ray Romano of Everybody loved Raymond fame, Holly Hunter, and Anupam Kher. Another recommendation for Munich dwellers, this time the culinary kind: Nepal House near Rosenheimer Platz. It's quite easy to overlook walking down the busy Weißenburgerstraße. The food is absolutely delish, albeit a bit pricy. We had momos (Nepalese dumplings) and Dal Bhaat (Nepalese lentil soup, assorted vegetables and rice) and washed it down with Indian Kingfisher beer... sooo yum!
