LOVE : Type 3 (STORGE)

Storge can also be called or family or familial love. Familial love refers to natural or instinctual affection, such as the love of a parent towards offspring and vice versa. Storge is a concept that aims to explain the love parents feel towards a child, and vice versa. Even though this Storge is being used at times to explain the love between siblings, it is most frequently used to describe the love between parents and their offsprings.

Looking at this storge at a broader view, it has to do with a love of unity. It is the type of love that binds the families together and ensures loyalty which is the main characteristic of a functional parent and child relationship.

No one can deny the fact that having a child changes your perception of this world, you see all your energy, time, mind and resources being directed towards your children. The funny part of it is that doing that gives you joy, this is how much a parent loves his children.

On the other hand children love their own parents in a very special way. For children, their parents are the most beautiful and strongest, no matter their parents physical condition. In case of misunderstandings, you will always hear children say "I will tell my mother" or "I will tell my father".

The bond between parents and their offsprings is so strong. Storge is not based on a desire it is love at its most basic and pure form since the joy, happiness and success of the other person genuinely make us happy. This is the love that usually keeps couples together after Eros has worn out -the love for their children.
