What Are Your Christmas & Christmas Tree Traditions?!

in #life8 years ago

Are you in the mood for Christmas yet?

Today is the first day of December - yay!

For some people, December is the happiest time of the year.

They are already singing Christmas songs in June, and can't wait until the big day finally comes.

What is your Christmas routine? Do you decorate the Christmas tree on the 1st of December, or in the 24th, or some time in between ?

And what Is your tradition for Christmas Day?

For me personally the tree always gets put up on the 24th - that's a family tradition.

In the morning, we start decorating the tree after breakfast, pretty much until lunch time.

Then we spend the afternoon watching Christmas movies, eating cookies and helping to prepare the dinner and the table!

Then our family arrives at late afternoon / early evening for our dinner.

And after dinner, we start opening the presents!

(When me and my siblings were still kids, we actually started opening a few before dinner already because we were simply too excited :D)

I have never experienced the American / British tradition of getting up on the 25th and opening presents in the morning - but it always looks exciting in the movies as well!

For me, the 25th and 26th (which is also an official holiday) are just chilled days that you usually spend with family. But the main day is only the 24th.

Comment below what your Christmas traditions are, especially with the tree and the actual Christmas Day! I'd love to know about it!

Very nice post @Benjaminw ..... paints pictures of me raising my children as our routine was very much like yours.

thank you! And thanks for sharing, yes I feel like christmas is part of everyone's favorite childhood memories

After my time in Denmark It's the 24th for me to.
Dancing around the Christmas tree is a must along with the Danish Dance around the Christmas tree songs.
Then open the presents.
And yes it's chill out time on the 25th.;D~

that sounds like lots of fun, I've heard about the dancing tradition!
But what do you do if you don't have enough space in the living room haha? And do you place the tree in the center of the room so you can dance around it? In germany we usually put it in a corner or against the wall, but that wouldn't work for you!

You make space always! And the tree is in the corner until the dancing starts.
And real candles on the tree are also a must.
I have never heard of a fire started by these candles. Danes are very aware of the danger and the candles are put out when the fest is over.

Here is a typical Danish tree and the Famous Dance and singing;D~

that looks so fun! thanks for sharing :D

Haahaha, when me and my brothers were little kids we also had to start opening a few presents BEFORE dinner, or even after each course because otherwise it was impossible to sit still ^^

It's just too tempting for a little kid to sit in front of a mountain of wrapped gifts, but not being able to open any :D I think every parent had to to that at some point!
