Blind Programmer, better than most with vision

in #life7 years ago

It's hard to imagine to be without the most important sense, our eyes. However if you loose it you have to adapt. What surprises me is how good one can become if he dedicates enough time to thing that he loves to do. So much so that in my eyes is seen as a superhuman.

If someone would tell me 15 years ago that there are blind programmers I would simply not believe it. These superhumans have incredible hearing. Take a listen at a sample below.

This is what it sounds like when software reads code back to them. Don't know about you but I can't understand anything. It's simply too fast for me to catch any word.

Here is a short youtube video of Cai Yongbin, who lost a vision as a young boy. With his dedication he became one of the best programmers. He memorizes up to 300 lines of code.

I challenge you to memorize shopping list next time you go shopping.

For me, most of my actual programming takes place in my head, writing the code is more the formality of expressing those thoughts. When focused I can go days without actually running any of the code I am writing and do not tend to debug that often.

That said, not seeing the code to be able to model it in my mind would be crippling.

True. Only when you have clear picture of a problem you can work toward solution. All of that happens in a head first. However, keeping track of 300 lines of code without looking at it is another thing.
