The Onon River: historical background and geography
Whoever has not been on the Onon River, the one that weakly represents not only the history of Russia, but also the development of Eurasia in general. The natural question is why? The answer to historical maps: for two millennia of the development of mankind from the banks of this river, two great movements began, which significantly influenced the map of the settlement of peoples and tribes of the world. In the first millennium - the migration of the Huns (Huns), in the second - the conquest of the Mongols.
As a result of these changes, humanity today has a Eurasian superethnos, which is mostly settled in Russia and Eastern Europe. The cradle of the superethnos is the valley of the Onon River.

There is no exact etymology of the name of the river, in the Mongolian language - Onon-gol - Onon river. The total length of the river is 1,032 kilometers, 298 kilometers of them are in the territory of Mongolia, the rest, 734 kilometers is the territory of Russia. This means that almost 80 percent of the historical events - the birth, strengthening and formation of the Mongol Empire took place on the territory of Russia, more specifically - the Trans-Baikal Territory, and even more precisely - the Kirinsky, Akshinsky, Onon, Olovyanninsky regions, through the lands of which passes the channel of this great river. To the same places are the areas on which the Onon River basin falls, especially the Borzinsky district, whose name derives from the word Borzhigin, which means the name of the genus of Genghis Khan himself.
Geographically, the Onon River is the right-hand component of the Shilka River and belongs to the Amur River basin.
The river originates from the Khentei Highlands, runs along the Hentyi-Chikoy Plateau, merges with Ingoda, together they form the Shilka River, which, merging with the Argun River, becomes the Amur.
The right tributaries of the Khurakh-gol, Borzya, Unda, the left tributaries - Agotsa, Kira, Ilya, Aha. On the territory of Russia has a wide current, mountainous places - Kirinsky, Akshinsky areas, steppe - Ononsky, Olovyanninsky. The river is very rich in fish. Throughout the course of time there is only one tourist base - Yusun Tug, which is located on the left bank near the village of Tokchin. In the middle reaches near the Tsasuchey Bridge, where a snack bar is open today, it is possible that the second tourist base will appear.
All Russian historians pointing to the birthplace of Genghis Khan in the area of Delun-Baldok, which is located on the territory of the Onon district, invariably indicated "According to the testimony of Mongolian historians". There is no reason not to believe this or that.
I must say that the villages on the banks of the river are the former Cossack villages of the 2nd military department of the Trans-Baikal Cossack Army, which guarded the Eastern borders of Russia from the beginning of the accession of the Baikal region (Dauria) to Russia. In these villages and settlements were born and lived the leaders of the White Movement, one of them - the ataman Grigory Mikhailovich Semyonov.
I believe that in the III millennium the Onon River will become one of the most visited tourist places on the planet. Already on the shores of the historical Onon rush researchers, historians, tourists ...
These historical places are my Motherland, the energy of which has always fed my spirit and my creativity.
