Jobs and dates

in #life7 years ago

Job interviews are a bit like dates. The only difference is you don’t go full blown peacock on it, but tone it down. You hide that cleavage, take off the red nail polish and go with skin tones, no ripped jeans or superheroes t-shirts. Out with the flaky, nerdy, hobo and trashy. And yes, I can understand that that pair of lucky shorts, the pink tiara and the red cape might help with the confidence. But no, you want to drag out your inner capable, presentable, professional and practical woman aura … even though you feel scared as shit and have no idea what you are doing.

Just like on a date you want to impress the person across you. You bring out your personal credentials but don’t want to sound like you are bragging. You smile but don’t overdo it. You want to be polite but not too meek. To me it feels like walking the rope. And the line is thin. I swear she looked me right in the core with those eyes and after she told me she worked in a prison before … I figured no point in bullshiting her. If I excel at something it is reading people. I laid my cards on the table. She laid hers.

The interview lasted for over an hour. Which was something new to me. I don’t even know if I would hire myself, but I guess she saw something she liked. Or the competition simply wasn’t competent enough. She wants a conformation until Tuesday that I am sure I would like to work there and after that … we will see.

So I guess I might be changing my job in May. Do not ask me how I feel about it. I’m not even sure. I don’t handle change well and it takes some time for me to take something as my own. I also didn’t work in my profession for the last 7 years, which adds up to the fear.

Changing relationships works the same way. Here they are used to my antics, tiaras, superpowers and capes. They know me. There I will be new and lost. I know that with time that will change. My reason works just fine. My mental age copes. But I figured that with age you sort of grow up. I guess like a monkey I learned new tricks, but sometimes I feel that my emotional age stayed right there … somewhere in the teens. Half of the time I feel like I have to play I’m 34, but I sure as hell don’t feel like it.

This was done as a commission. @suesa ordered it for @scienceangel. With things on my mind it was a welcomed distraction.

Oh, another wonderful drawing!

Good luck with the job transition. Something tells me you're ready for a change. I mean, it's always so scary to consider a new job. We start to tell ourselves, I'm not sure I really want it anyway... But if we were looking and went through the trouble of an interview, somewhere inside we probably really do want it.

I felt the same way approaching my new thing. And I thought, well, I don't have to take the job, but I can't turn down a job if they don't offer it to me!

It sounds like you're a riot with those kids, though. I'm sure they'll miss you!

A lot of us are stuck at an early emotional age. Dates and job interviews can be sooo similar... but you never want to lean in for the kiss at the end of a job interview.

Over an hour for an interview? pfff...
Does she know about your steemit profile?

OMG...no :D Lets hope she never finds out too......I'm keeping this a high secret. :3

First of all - a huge THANKS for this amazing artwork you did! I will use it proudly in all my future posts!

And for your new job, I keep my fingers crossed for everything to work out smoothly for you!

Wish you all the best! :)

Nema na čemu. :) I'm glad u like it and lets hope it will promped u to post more (look whos talking lol...).

Amazing artwork! If I ever need a designer - I will hire you.

Don't worry too much about the job interviews. If those people who speak to you are not able to distinguish between real values and pure role-playing with the fake sentences - trust me, you don't want to work for them. Actually, it's the best to never start working for them.

You are obviously great and you deserve to work with/for good team members.

Sve če biti ok....and if it wont be, ill sort it out. :) And sure...if u're not fussy or demanding my hands are up for hiring. :)

Congrats on almost a new job :D If she liked you means she knows you can do it! Heads up... give a few weeks and start wearing that Tiara again :))

Yeah, we will see. I never want to set things to much in stone in case stuff happens. Who knows, maybe she canges her mind. :) I guess I will know for sure till the end of next week and ty! :)

Fingers crossed (not when I type though..) :D

I hope it works out well. It's normal to feel jittery at the moment, but judging by some of your previous posts which didn't sound too happy you need to change jobs.

Honestly I really like the job i curently have...the kids get under your skin...all is sort of "homy". But yeah...ik ure also right. For me personaly it would be better to change it.

Congratulations! Don't worry, I'm sure in 6 months you'll feel right at home, wherever you go, it just takes a bit of time! And who says change is bad? :)

Yeah ik ik. :) Still dislike the feeling lol.

Hey, most of us do ;P But I guess it's for the best! We'd be in the same old spot without change and that wouldn't be no good ;)

Hey! I'm Aly, nice to meet you. This is a pretty cute way to think of an interview, haven't crossed my mind like that before. Remember that interviews are a two way thing though, it's a way of finding out if the job is suitable for you, just as much as if you're suitable for them. ^^ All the best with your job change !

Hi. :) ...and I know...but since the pressue is sort of big (there is very few jobs in my line of work) you sort of forget about yourself and fall in the position of pleasing the employer. Here the mindset is still in the stone age. As my old boss said it: you dont like it? Go. There is about 700 of waiting to replace you (there was 700 applications sent for old job position).

Ah I see, probably goes with being in a specialised industry. Good luck with your choices in future though, you sound like a nice person, wishing you nothing but the best.

Good luck with your job. I have done so many interviews in my life and I am shit at it, like I am shit at dates.
What's your mental age?

By a pointless survey I just did....49. The more stupid you find everything the higher it is. Supposedly having fun and enjoy everything is not smart. :)
