33 Minutes - Part 2
33 Minutes
Death has had his round of names this day. All is left is to take one more, the life of a woman; a woman giving birth. Death must take the life of someone giving life; how ironic.
The time is running low. “1 minute”. Death saw the mother’s life and energy slowly fading. What can he do? The woman, as weak and pale as she currently is, used her remaining energy and force to exert one last push. With a miracle, the baby was delivered as the mother passed out. A healthy baby boy. His cry signals the beginning of new life. The clock is reading seconds. “It is time.”
Death slowly approaches the mother. He knows the only thing he needs to do is touch her, then lead her soul to eternity, then he can finally rest. He reaches out to the woman’s heart, but at the last second, he stopped. “0”. The time read. What is he doing? He knows he can’t alter death, it is his duty. He glanced at the baby, so full of life. He knows that even if he doesn’t want to, he has to take her away. “No, this is just unfair. A mother went through so much up until the end without witnessing the fruit?” He looked at his round watch. “0”. Her soul is ready, but he isn’t ready to take her away.
There was silence. He suddenly stopped all what he's doing. He was blank, as he stares into the woman. He checked his time again. He felt his heart beat. With his power, he reverted back time, not the time of all that exist, but the woman's lifeline. He decided to give her an extra 3 Minutes. As forbidden as it is, he just knows the pain of passing away without bearing the fruit of your sacrifices.
The mother slowly regained consciousness. “My baby.” The doctor then gave her his healthy young boy. The mother burst into tears. She hugged her baby as firm as she can, but as gentle as she can be. Death was watching. He felt another beat. The mother then returned the baby to the doctor and turned to her husband; “Take good care of him.” After a short kiss, the mother’s life fades, again.
“0”. With a sigh, Death approached the mother and touched her heart, then guides her soul. Her soul was crying, but with a smile on her lips. He was moved. “I know what you did.” She whispered. "I can't thank you enough for giving me more time to say hi to my baby, but you could've at least gave me another 2 minutes while you're at it." She said jokingly. Death, as blank as his presence is, felt something different. Deep inside, he felt joy. He felt warmth. The mother is so strong, courageous, and most of all, she had a pure heart. She reaches for Death's hand. "I'm ready." As Death reached out for her hand, she then proceeded with a warm hug. “Thank You.” She then held onto Death’s hand and went on to eternity.
