How to Lose Weight by Heat
You can lose weight by creating heat in the body by sitting in a dry heat sauna and creating a light sweat. This does not mean to sit for hours at a time, which would create dehydration and endanger your health.
For years, people have used sweating to lose weight. The idea is to raise the heat of the body, which increases the heart rate and produces sweating that will result in loss of a few pounds as water weight.
Also consider eating a low-fat, balanced diet and exercising regularly for long-term, permanent weight loss.
Shower first and also drink some water before entering a sauna. The idea of losing weight by sweating in a sauna is not difficult, but you must guard against dehydration. Set the sauna at about 150 degrees Fahrenheit to begin. If you cannot tolerate that level of heat, lower it slightly.
Remain in the sauna for 15 to 20 minutes. Drink water every 15 minutes so that you do not become dizzy or weak. Leave the sauna if you cannot handle the heat, however low it is set.
Shower again after your sauna as you will have built up a good sweat after even just 20 minutes. Infrared saunas have become popular as their manufacturers claim that infrared waves create heat that penetrates more deeply into the body.
It is possible to lose a few pounds from loss of water weight through perspiration in this way.
Tips and Warnings
- All saunas will help you sweat and detoxify. All forms of cardiovascular exercise that elevate the heart rate do the same thing: Make you sweat and burn calories.
- Experiment with different types of saunas and remember to stay hydrated and limit time to no more than 20 minutes. Exit the sauna if you feel ill or weak. The National Institutes of Health does not recommend saunas as a way of losing weight rapidly (as wrestlers and athletes might, to make a certain weight).
