How to Make a Spa at Home
Spas are the ultimate in relaxation and pampering, but they can be seriously pricey and not always in your monthly budget. Instead of skipping your usual session, create an at-home spa where you can indulge in your favorite treatments without spending a lot of cash. Items from your pantry and refrigerator can be combined to create a spa experience much like one you'd enjoy at a commercial spa. Kick your partner out of the house for an afternoon while you indulge and pamper yourself on the cheap, or try a sexy at-home spa for two.
What You'll Need
- Water
- Lemon Mint Rose petals
- Strawberries Starch
- Oatmeal Lotion
- Socks
- Nail polish
- Candles
- Music
Step 1
Start by gently steaming your skin so that your pores are open and ready for your beauty spa treatments. Bring a pot of water to simmer on the stove; you can throw in lemons, a sprig of mint or another essential oil to give you aromatherapy while you steam. When the pot is simmering, remove it from the heat and drape a towel over your head and the pot, tenting the steam. Stay there for five minutes as you relax and breathe in the steam.
Step 2
Make a facial mask ideal for tightening skin. Mix 1/4 cup of chopped strawberries, 1/2 tsp. of lemon juice and 3 tbsp. of starch together in a food processing machine, suggests Sara Wells of OurBestBites.com. Then apply the mixture to your skin with your fingers, leaving it to set until it is dry to the touch. Rinse off with water and pat dry.
Step 3
Mix your own rose water, ideal as an astringent for toning your skin following the mask. Mix a cup of firmly packed rose petals with two cups of boiling water. Allow the mixture to sit until cool, and then strain off the liquid, advises "Glamour" magazine. Pour the liquid into a spray bottle and mist it over your face for a refresher after your strawberry mask.
Step 4
Give your feet some care by performing a pedicure at home. You can complete the same steps for a manicure as well. Scrub your feet over the bathtub with a cup of oatmeal and enough milk to make it a paste. Organic living website WholeLiving.com notes that you can also add honey or spices to make the foot scrub more moisturizing or better smelling. Pay special attention to your heels and toes. Once scrubbed, apply a thick moisturizing cream to your feet, massaging slowly, and put on a pair of socks to lock in the moisture for at least 30 minutes. Remove the socks and apply your choice of nail polish.
Step 5
Take some time to relax and meditate once you've completed your beauty treatments. You may want to light a few candles or play soothing music. Make the environment as relaxing as the last step of a real spa treatment would be, and take time to rest and relax to finish your spa at home.
