For me, proving a point to others is rather futile. After much trial and error over many years, I came to the clear conclusion that talk is silver, silence is golden. Proving one's point is egoic, because we imply that our Truth is better than theirs. At the same time our ego detests losing and to be 'disabused' . Any argument is merely serving the purpose of getting out as the winner, otherwise we wouldn't partake in the first place.
Most people say that debating is important to broaden our horizon of knowledge and perspective. But what happens in actuality is that when we are not steadfast in our Truth we let in external Truth, which we eventually need to declutter again.
I prefer your last point 'ignorance', not because of arrogance but because of 'the only Truth lies with oneself' and only this way we take 100% responsibility for our experience. So I can listen but there is no need to convince anyone.
