Broken lenses

in #life7 years ago

So many people are living a deluded life based on assumptions, conjectures and their subjective views of life as a result of experiences that are sometimes exclusive and unique to them.

They tend to use these personal experiences to judge life in general and they believe what they have gone through is some kind of mathematical formula for life.

life is a bitch most times

A lot of people perceive and evaluate life using “broken lenses”. What I call a broken lens is an unpleasant experience an individual has been subjected to at one point in time such as failure in an endeavor, disappointment or heartbreak.

Unpleasant experiences like these could end up being life defining for some people and it is at this state that they begin to view the world through a broken lens.

When you come into contact with a person who views the world as an unpleasant reality , he or she will give you ten reasons why you can’t pass that exam because he or she once gave it his or her best and yet was unable to hit the target.

Such an individual will enlighten you on why trusting someone in a relationship is the worst thing you can ever do because they have trusted someone before and the person shattered their heart into irreparable pieces or should I say more appropriately, irreparable lenses.

They say things like, “men are snakes” just because one man was disloyal to them.

stop!!!!!

hope and reality

Just like every typical human being, I know you are already tempted or have already fallen into the temptation of remembering certain people you have come across in your life who views the world through one broken lens or the other.

If you are doing that or have done that, please repent because this is not just about someone else, this is about you! This piece of writing is put together not so that you can label some people, we have enough of such mechanisms and media already in the world.

The apparent truth is that we all have broken lenses in our lives. Better put, we have all suffered one heartbreak or disappointment at one time or the other in our lives. That is no news of course! The one-billion-dollar question posed to us all is that, “do we not use the broken lens as an excuse for not pushing ahead and maximizing our potentials in life?” As much as you are endeavoring to avoid people who views the world through a broken lens, are you sure you are not also guilty of seeing some aspects of life as broken, untenable, impossible, unattainable and unachievable? Can you sincerely boldly declare without batting an eyelid that you have not being using your broken lens to measure and advise others in their life pursuit when they ask you for your “candid” opinion concerning their chances of hitting the targets they are aiming at? If your answer to the above questions is negative, then I say congratulations to you because you have been able to successfully put your broken lens where they belong, IN THE PAST.

However, if your answers to those probing golden questions is in the affirmative, then you need to do a broken lens check up on your life.

You cannot repair your broken lens; however, you can choose to never use it to view the world. Failure to do this will affect us negatively because it will make us unable to truly rise above mediocrity and punch the demons of our past real hard in the face. Every great achiever has a broken lens, they have simply chosen to refuse to view their world and the world of others through those broken lenses because the resultant effect like my friend, NF the rapper says is that EVERYTHING WILL APPEAR BROKEN.
