Lunch with mum, and everything else I've eaten today

in #life6 years ago (edited)

I splashed out today (well STEEM is flying right!?) and ate lunch at a place called Mint, even managed to fit a beer in and bit of the football too. Hi mum, you'll likely be reading this tomorrow with your crackers and Hummus 😛

So that's my mum over there, looking pretty good for 69. I suppose it helps when you've never smoked, and only really started drinking when you reach retirement age (that's all the expats do here!). Before I show you lunch, and the 3rd guest, I'm going to start with the 'best' meal of the day.

Breakfast. One egg, fried with the egg whites in this bottle. 30 eggs worth apparently. Egg white is pretty much fat free, and everything else free, except protein. I'd class it as a free food and suggest you can consume as much as you can stomach. Raw is a bit rough, unless mixed with a protein shake - I'm not drinking those as present though.

Crack egg, pour weird stuff in pan, fry on low heat, add pepper, eat in 1 minute. Job done. I doubt anyone reading this today remembers how I feel about food in general, so I'll leave this link here in case you are interested.

https://steemit.com/diet/@abh12345/is-anyone-else-just-not-that-excited-about-the-prospect-of-preparing-and-consuming-food

In summary, I'm not big on prep, food is fuel, and if it's healthy then I'm more ok with making and eating it.

Lunch. Spicy tuna wraps, chips, a couple of cherry tomatoes and a token bit of rocket salad. Looks good, tastes good, but I'd rather have a jacket potato - less guilt, and rarely do you get asked to share. Served on a skateboard...

3.jpg

Don't worry though, because if any of the chips lose their balance, the cleaner awaits...

4.jpg

Scruffy the dog. She is due a haircut, and seeing as it was 30c today, is probably looking forward to it.

Evening meal, or tea-time, or dinner - the one you eat around 7pm, unless you are Spanish then it's more like 10pm. Tuna (no sauce), boiled eggs (no mayo), Couscous (I didn't prep it), lettuce, more cherry tomatoes, olives, and pickles, with a load of the special ingredient, apple cider vinegar.

I've read about people filling a shot glass of this stuff In the morning and consuming it daily. Apparently it's a good de-calcifying- something the pineal gland is in need of as you get older. As someone who may have tested that gland out with various substances in the past, I'm keen on helping it out where possible.

So there we are, my yearly food blog. No mammal meat, lots of protein, and not much fat. Oh, and don't forget the water and multivitamin.

Have a good weekend all!

Haha! Personal posts! Get me excited 😊 Your mom is beautiful!!!! And, your doggo is so sweet get the baby a hair cut!! Good clean food choices. I guess you're not into the newest fad of 'keto' by the looks of it. All these fads and hype..... it's so exhausting I agree. Don't get me wrong I love food. Probably too much 🤣. And, enjoy all aspects that surround it. Except the hype of all the fads 🙈🙉 i am curious what the heck 'jacket potoatoe' is? I have never heard of that before.

That's two in a week for me!

For a long time my 'diet' of choice has tried to be low fat, low carbs, high protein, and I think it's worked ok for me. I also think that people need to find what works for their body type,(ectomorph/mesomorph etc), allergies, conditions, metabolism, etc. So instead of picking a strict plan like Keto, might be better if people take the time to see what works for them.

A jacket potato is the potato with the skin 😊 Best served baked with cheese and butter - although none of those addons for me at present!

Ahhh, potatoe with skin on eh!! Makes sense. But, potatoes without fixings seem so blah! Haha, no kidding about each individual finding their way. I read a book called Diet Wise and it's saying (in little too doctorish terms --though I was really recovering from head injury while reading it... might have to revisit it) that potatoe for example can make some people feel intoxicated because they are allergic but don't correlate the issue to food because it is so seemingly harmless. Keep up the great steeming Asher! Glad to know you ✌🤹‍♂️

A potato allergy, not good, and would be tough I guess to pin anything to a spud.

Yep I will be soldiering on though these quite times, potentially a good time to get to know those that stick with it better 😁

I'm allergic to potato and it causes gastric upset - green leafy veggies are the same. Years before all the allergy testing, I was told I had "IBS" and that it was probably stress, and I should meditate. Yeah, no. Got off my allergens and LO - 90% of those "IBS" symptoms went away. Amazing what happens when a doctor actually bothers to run a test.

Oh! Wonderful post Asher :D

Now, you ruined my lunch, I am going to have my chicken salad resenting every bite of it. I want french fries ! 🙊

It is around 30 degrees here too! But, unlike that cute little thing thatis your dog, I already had my hair cut 😏

Enjoy the weekend!!! :*

Thanks Abigail

I'm trying to share a bit more of me while the place is less active :)

Please enjoy your lunch in the hot weather - I'm going to prepare a salad right now.

Thank you!

Love the pic of you and your mom; she does look great...as do you and the pup :)

I love prepping food to cook; there's something so calming and therapeutic for me when I do it. It's a bit like creating art to me. And of course I love to eat...almost anything, except eggplant. blech! too slimy or something.

I know a lot of people who have a tablespoon of apple cider vinegar daily.

As someone who may have tested that gland out with various substances in the past, I'm keen on helping it out where possible.

haha I hear ya buddy. Apparently wheatgrass is another one that helps too. I may start the ACV (apple cider vinegar as the healthies refer to it:), but it's supposed to be organic, like Bragg's brand. I have one friend in particular who claims that it cures just about everything...except his stupidity if you ask me lol

Have a great weekend too :)

Thanks! I'm sure Mum will be happy reading this, and probably tell Scruffy too!

It's a good job some people enjoy food prep, we might not have made it out of the wilderness if not! Everyone round to your house for the food party?

Ahh the ACV, good to know other people are on it. Last year I was consuming some daily, and I'm sure it made my ears ring more - wondering if anyone else has had these symptoms.

Tuna is a brain food - maybe he needs a bit more of that? 😁

hahaha he needs more than tuna Asher!

Really? Made your ears ring? I've not heard of that one, but I guess it's entirely possible. Not calling you crazy or anything like that ;)

My mom never tires of hearing how young she looks, then she says things like this to me: "your skin looks great in the summer, because you tan so well, but you look like shit in the winter" haha. She's not kidding though! No couth, my mom!! Perhaps that's why I ended up in Mexico ;)

I feel she'd say the same to me! That's why I'm trying to find a place with only one season, the hot one 😎

A ringing ear does make me go a little crazy at times, 15 years of it so far since the bike accident. The docs said it would ring for a long time - I didn't think it would be forever more!

Then you'd love it here. It goes from hot, to hotter, and not much in between!

I didn't know you'd been in a bike accident! 15 years is a long time for anything, let alone something like ringing in the ear! That must get really annoying, to say the least. And the apple cider vinegar made it worse?! Geez, that's all really awful actually. Isn't it strange, with modern medicine the way it is, that the doctors can't come up with anything better than, "it would ring for a long time"? Do you have dizziness or anything else 'attached' to it?

Sounds like my ideal weather forecast!

I was lucky to escape with just a ringing ear that's a bit deaf as the long term side effect of a skull fracture, so I always think about that when the ringing is prominent.

I was wondering if the ACV was decalicifing whatever's not right in my ear and therefore allowing me to hear the ringing easier - could be a load of rubbish I know!

If sunny and hot is what you need, this is the place!

You sound like you were pretty lucky! Who knows about the ACV too? Rubbish or not, it might be accurate for you!

Reads title “everything else I've eaten today” sees picture of a dog named Scruffy. One of these things are not like the other. Looks for that unfollow button, closes out of this blog ;)

Looks like a great time. I don’t think I would ever trust whatever you poured out of that container for “food.” I think I would rather spend the 30 minutes making something myself. That’s just how I feel even more so now that I’m trying grow some fresh things to eat as well.

Looks like an amazing day out. Even more so some great fish and chips. So glad the dog was at the ready to pick up anything that was dropped on the floor.

Haha 😁 You'll be happy to know that dog isn't on the menu in Mallorca (I hear it is in some countries!?)

The expensive and wasteful alternative to the container using more eggs - but I do understand where you are coming from. I find it's tough to get protein without fat in a vege diet - I doubt that I reached 160g of it yesterday, which if I still weight 80kg, is a rough guide to what someone wishing to add muscle should be aiming for.

Chips were the treat food - I rarely have them but these guys make them how I prefer.

Thanks for stopping by!

I’ve been told it is in some places of the world. Then again people from there deny it. I’m not one to go travel and find out so it can just remain a mystery.

That sounds like a lot of protein. I don’t want know how much a heavier person like me is supposed to be consuming. I think a lot more than what was on those plates! Doubtful I consumed enough at buffet I was at last week either.

Happy building and enjoying the nice weather.

I'm quite sure I wouldn't be keen to try it!

The figures above are to (with the right exercise) add muscle mass, I think you can get away with much less to maintain.

It looks like another lovely day here, I hope the same for you 😊

It's 4am right now. If I stay up a couple more hours I'm sure I'll find out. Sadly I might sleep a big part of the daylight away today.

I did enjoy half an hour of being outdoors on Friday and it was great. Have a great weekend.

Hey Asher, your food selection looks great, certainly learning to eat helps you to stay in the future, I was struck by the fact that the label on the egg whites container is in Spanish, for a moment I thought the translator was helping me with the images.

Hi @melvadg

Thanks for stopping by. I currently live on the Spanish island of Mallorca and although surrounded by tourists, at least the food labels are en español 😁

Is your Mom visiting or living there Asher?
My mom is over here for a bit of annual sunshine in a few weeks for a few weeks also, I can't wait to see her too.
Have a superb time my friend.

Yes she's lived here for a few years now, a popular retirement spot for Brits I guess.

And why not, apart from this freak sunshine year in the UK, Mallorca has that slowly pace and is better for aging bones 😊

Enjoy your time with mum, and thanks!

A day well spent and your mom looks great for her age :D . It pays off to live a healthy life . And the meal looks delicious

Thank you! Yes, working hard early, to relax later on seems to have worked :)

Mom looks great! Retirement is treating her well. Those food would be something my mom would love except the tuna. She does not eat meat and fish but eats eggs. I hope that skateboard is clean lol! Scruffy realky needs the haircut.

Thanks @leeart 😁

No meat and fish sounds quite tough, it's good that your mum still does the eggs though - got to find that protein from somewhere.

Next week or the week after is haircut time for the scruffy dog I think, she will be very happy for it!

I've read about people filling a shot glass of this stuff In the morning and consuming it daily.

Do you mean the apple cider? Have you tried it?

Your mom looks fantastic! Did the poor dog get clipped? Now your food...that is another story? Are you generally going for bland? The choices you made are good but I would have to add some spice, hot peppers, maybe some fresh garden herbs...

The dog will be clipped soon! I'll try to get a photo shortly after as she looks a lot different.

I suppose breakfast on this day was a bit bland, the rest not so bad though. I do like spicy food, curries are great 😁

My mum appreciated this comment, thanks!

You are welcome!

Aaaaaw, your mom looks so friendly! :-)
Moms are just the best.

So that's the diet about? Proteins? I think the two last plates don't look too bad. Add some virgin olive oil even if it's not allowed :-)

Thank you!

My mum likes reading these comments 😁

I think low carb/fat works best for me, especially when there is beer making up the difference!

The egg was cooked in virgin olive oil, does that count? 😁

I think low carb/fat works best for me, especially when there is beer making up the difference!

Haha, now everything makes sense :-D

Have a good start into the week!!
