The red-osier dogwood, botanical name cornus sericea, is a species of flowering plant in the family cornaceae.

It is also called red osier, red brush, red willow, redstem dogwood, redtwig dogwood, red-rood, American dogwood, creek dogwood, and western dogwood, and is native to most of North America.

The leaves are ovate to oval with whole margins and grow on opposite sides. They are dark green above and grayish below, usually turning bright red to purple in the fall.

It is often grown as a popular ornamental shrub because of the reddish color of its branches during the dormant season.
