Northern catalpa, scientific name catalpa speciosa, is a species of catalpa native to the Midwestern United States.

Also known as hardy catalpa, western catalpa, cigar tree, catawba-tree, or bois chavanon, it is a medium-sized deciduous tree 15 to 30 meters tall.

The leaves are deciduous, opposite (or ringed), large, heart-shaped, pointed at the tip, and hairy underneath.

Leaves usually do not change color in the fall, but may drop abruptly or turn slightly yellow-brown before falling off.
