Golden Senna (Senna Surattensis)
Golden senna, with the scientific name senna surattensis, is a small tree that is listed in the Global Compendium of Weeds as an ‘agricultural weed’, ‘environmental weed’, ‘cultivation escape’, ‘garden thug’, ‘naturalised’ and ‘weed’.
It is one of the senna species with the ability to form rhizoids, allowing for a symbiotic relationship with nitrogen-fixing bacteria.
This species is often used as a hedge or shade tree in plantations and cultivated areas.
The origin of this species remains unknown, but it is known to occur in many tropical and subtropical regions, including Southeast Asia, Africa, and the West Indies, where it is often grown as an ornamental.
