California Laurel (Umbellularia Californica)
California laurel, with botanical name umbellaria californica, is a tall evergreen tree with a trunk up to 90 centimeters thick and growing to a height of 30 meters.
In Oregon, the tree is known as the Oregon myrtle, a large broadleaf tree native to the coastal forests and hills of the Sierra California and the coastal forests that extend into Oregon.
The leaves are green with a thin underside and whole margins, lanceolate, about 3-10 cm long, and have a pleasant fragrance similar to that of bay leaves.
These leaves are often placed between the mattresses of beds to keep fleas away.
