What is not Leadership
In our world today especially in Africa we have defined leadership to mean a lot things which have in turn become the outcome of wrong leadership in many nations. The way we see things will determine it's outcome and results so also the way we define leadership will determine the outcome and results we get from that kind of leadership.
There are many misconception about the word leadership, many citizens of Nigeria for instance have wrong notions about what leadership means and who really a leader is.
Until we identify what leadership is not and who a leader is not, we will keep getting wrong the definition of leadership and who a leader is as the right definition of leadership
Among the youths, Who are being constantly manipulated by the politicians and national figures to support them even when the youths vividly see that these politicians are out for the fame and popularity and not the welfare of the citizens, the youths and every other citizen of the country must be taught what leadership is not so that when they see it they will quickly rise up against such in the country.
So now let's look at what leadership is not
1. Leadership is not a title
Many people think that when a man or woman is given a title for instance a pastor, commissioner, Governor, President, Bishop, principal, Chancellor etc. People start calling it leadership or calling them leaders which is a wrong notion because leadership is not by the titles you are called or given.
There are so many people with titles around the world but none of them function as leaders or carry out the roles of the leadership of the title they are posses, when you carry titles without functioning then you are not a leader you are just carrying title.
We have many Governors, pastors, commissioners who are being bear those titles but they have never function or carry out the duties of a leader
Do not let titles determine if you'll call yourself a leader or call someone a leader. There are many people who are functioning well as leaders more than those calling themselves leaders because they are carrying titles.
2. Leadership is not about big positions.
Governors, presidents, CEO,General Managers of Banks etc. Many people think that until they get a big position before they can call themselves leaders or call someone a leader but that is not true.
David in the bible, he was a Shepherd boy and King Saul was a King in Israel but a Shepherd boy who had no position led the Israelites in battle with Goliath and got Victory but King Saul who had a position was no where to be found in leadership.
3. Leadership is not fame
Because a person becomes famous for a particular reason, maybe because of an invention, or is a celebrity does not confer on that person the mantle of leadership
Famous people might not necessarily be leaders, they might be able to influence some persons because of their wealth but at some time only influence can not sail the boat of leadership.
