Journey to Leadership: Topic 2. Motivated and Persistent
Most people make new year resolutions, but not many people actually achieve them. They were 'motivated' to make the resolutions, but they are not 'persistent' enough to address the challenges and obstacles on the way to their goals.
As a leader, you should accept it as a reality. You should not simply blame your people for their attitude problem when they give up or do not move so actively as you want them to.
You should keep scanning how things are working or not, and find out the reasons or root causes of them.
In this process, many untrained leaders tend to micromanage their people and their daily work even when they should not. It makes things even worse, on the contrary to their desire, as their people are deprived of their freedom and authority to handle their work.
If you want your people to be proactive and creative, you should allow as much freedom as possible. It will give you more time in return for you to work on more important tasks.
Leadership in a sense is how to motivate people and keep them persistent to achieve their goals. Besides, as things are changing all the time, they need to be creative and flexible to adapt themselves to the ever-changing environment. So do you.
How to as a leader? It is what I will cover on our journey to leadership.
