Journey to Leadership: Topic 1. Result Oriented Leader
Hi, my name is Harry Park. I worked on leadership development for 18 years - management training, lectures on leadership, course material design for other leadership trainers, training and coaching for other trainers, etc. Before the career, I had worked as people manager for over 11 years in several different business lines on top of 8 years of professional.
Many say that leadership is an art and very complicated. And, I have found so many untrained leaders make things difficult for the people they lead rather than help.
I plan to create a brief core topic on each subject of leadership from now on. Hope my effort helps the leaders to create a better environment for their people and themselves. I will post one or two topics a week from now on.
Topic 1. Result oriented leader
We all make plans to do something. Unfortunately, not many of the plans are completed, as you all have experienced.
Leader's job is pushing their plans forward overcoming all the challenges on the way and achieve the planned results. People say that procedure is also important. No question about it. But, without achieving results, you won't be really satisfied.
As a leader, you should keep reminding yourself of your responsibility for achieving the objective of the plan you are working on. Answer yourself:
- Objective
- Due date
- Top 3 actions for you to take
Note: please comment to improve the topic for other leaders to be more effective.
What if results do not come, but not because of the leader`s fault, just because of unlucky circumstances?
You need honest and wise assessment of the circumstances. You may want to discuss with someone who knows you well to have objective views of the circumstances. If things are way beyond your control, you may want to change your way to achieve the goals. Don't quickly give up, however.
