RE: Sherry Johnson - Day 15 (Happy Black History Month)

in #laws7 years ago (edited)

What happened to Sherry Johnson was truly tragic, qponqween. However, keep in mind that this situation took place before 1977, which was the year that our Federal government passed a law making it illegal for a man to rape his own wife. Her marriage still would have appeared to have been illegal back in the early 1970s under the English Common Law. Anyhow, the way I see it is if this proposed law is so popular as Ms. Johnson believes it to be, she and her colleagues should seek to have it placed on their state's November ballot as a proposition, measure or question. This new law would affect a lot of people. Therefore, it should be up to the voters to decide its fate rather than the state legislators. I guess you probably have already figured out by now that I am not a supporter of this law, and I believe that more harm than good will come from it. I know that this is not the first post on your article that you were hoping for, but it is how I feel and what I have been able to deduce.
