Exploring Cenote Azul (Blue Cenote)
Yucatan Peninsula is known to have the world’s most widespread range of underwater sinkholes and caves called "cenotes". Some of them are open like a lake, others completely closed with only a small opening for entrance. You can find over 6,000 different of them in Yucatan.
Water is clear, cool and refreshing (not salty), as the water comes from rain water filtering slowly through the ground,
Cenote Azul
Cenote Azul is “L’ shaped, quite large and it´s located just 20-minute drive south of Playa del Carmen. This openground river system has also a cliff (5 m) you can jump from. It is full of fish, and has a varied underwater landscape to explore.
We spent a good part of the day swimming, checking out the fish and relaxing around the cenote. Don´t forget to bring or rent a snorkel and mask for tons of snorkeling opportunities. Every year this poupular cenote attracts cave divers from all over the world.
Note:
I would recommend being there before 10am to avoid the crowd that will begin to arrive at around 11am. This place fills up fast so make sure your are there early.
Entry is 100 pesos or $6 USD (cash only) per person and you don't need to sign up for any tour, very accessible by public transportation - collectivo.
Stay awesome and Steem on!
