The nature of this crime, and the fact that the abundance of evidence against Ibarra was so clear that even a leftist rag like MSNBC can't deny it makes me question my opposition to the death penalty.

This has been a major issue during the last election cycle. There's a reason why Republicans are winning on this issue -- and it's not because Republicans are entirely right.

I still support liberalization of our immigration policy. I support streamlining the process for people who come here legally to become citizens.

The problems with the leftist policy on immigration are just so abundant that Republicans can afford to be wrong a lot while still making more sense.

Yeah, when the caravans of migrants were trying to hop the border, border patrol "separated families." We did that to make sure that they were actually families, and not kids being trafficked. That's a sensible thing to do. Democrats were going fucking nuts about it.

Still, look at the facts of this case.

Ibarra came here illegally. Despite coming here illegally, the Democrat policy was to use taxpayer money to bus him to New York. He was provided with taxpayer funded food and housing. While in New York, he was arrested for child endangerment. At this point, the government knew that he was a member of the Tren de Aragua gang.

At that point, it's sensible to deport his ass. Any sensible policy would include some amount of prison time and deportation.

But, in the leftist mind, "sensible" and "racist" are synonyms. So, what did the Democrats do in light of this? Well, of course, they put him on a taxpayer funded flight to Georgia.

I love the idea of immigration. I wish that people could freely move to any place in the world in which they'll be most useful. Again, I think it would be a good policy to offer taxpayer funded flights and some cash to any American citizen who says that he or she wants to leave the country over a policy or an election result in exchange for his or her citizenship, and his or her citizenship would be transferred to somebody who wants to be here. I want volunteers, not captives.

I'm also aware that securing the southern border is easier said than done. It's probably a fool's errand. People are going to slip through.

Still, the decisions made in regard to Ibarra leading up to Laken Riley's murder show us that this isn't a simple matter of someone slipping through the cracks. You wanna talk about "systemic" problems? This is actually a systemic problem.

If a member of Al-Qaeda managed to slip into the country, that could just be human error. If that Al-Qaeda member got arrested, and we found out that he was an Al-Qaeda member while he was in custody, and we still let him out, and he went out and blew up a building, the policy is just as culpable for the carnage as the dude who set off the bomb.

Hell, we're charging parents for felonies for allowing their emotionally disturbed kids access to firearms, which I actually support by the way. How are the people who let Ibarra roam free, knowing what they knew, not criminally culpable for Laken Riley's murder?
