A morning at Rumah Kita

I was invited as a Lactation Counselor to this home, Rumah Kita in KL, where its a home for pregnant teenage girls and abandoned babies, my duty was to support and educate on breastfeeding. It was an overwhelming experience and most of the time I was quiet, with mixed emotions and had many questions of why why why this has to happen.
Why this girl?
This girl is pretty and well spoken, why her?
This girl speaks awesome english, why is she here?
This girl is tall and well dressed, she can do more, what happened?
This girl is 16yo, what on earth happened?
Why they end up here?
What happened?
Why..
Why..
Why..

With all that in my head, I spoke to them to show support, that I'm here to help, to educate, to listen/advise if need to.

I will be making a trip there again, to conduct Breastfeeding Class for the pregnant girls with my team. Main factor is to initiate an understanding of need to breastfeed, besides financial reasons. Second factor is how to continue providing breastmilk when you are at work, away from baby or when back in school to complete studies.

Let us all go home and think about our sons and daughters, be their bestfriends so that they are open to share their thoughts and feelings. Be their support system so strong that they will turn to you in time of confusion. Teach them sex education and why it has to wait.

COMMUNICATION, LOVE & PRAYERS, are 3 key aspect I find most important.
