The World Situation
At the market I saw a devotee friend that I hadn't been in contact with for a few years. He was looking through items in one of the bins. Happy to see him I walked over and greeted him. He looked so much older than I remembered. Very thin, eyes sunken deep. Coloring was good. He seemed healthy enough. Just significantly aged.
Without standing up straight, still hunched over the bin, he peered up at me and muttered in a fearful tone, "The world situation." Ever since I knew him he had this focus. A kind of morose, hopelessness but now adding the aging this despair seemed to have consumed him entirely.
Not much I could at this point, after his lifetime of despair, all I could do was tell him, "Hare Krishna."
