How to show hate the good way

Two days ago a journalist called Brian Krebs published this article:

In this article he doxxed private data about admins and moderators of the german image board pr0gramm.com. He also called the community far-right and casted the pr0gramm into a negative light with some other statements.
To understand the reaction of the pr0gramm community you have to understand that you cant just register to pr0gramm.com but have to be invited by existing members or have to pay for it. Therefore the community is very strong, proud of it self and more or less exclusive.
Because of some private data related incidents in the past the admins and moderators were on red alert when their private data was doxxed.(more or less again) They made an official statement on pr0gramm which said they can not say at the moment whether they will continue to keep the image board running which threw the community into a turmoil. As a reaction a campaign developed over night to show their "hate" against the article. The whole image board was full of screenshots where users donated to some organisations that fight against cancer. To understand that you have to know that Krebs (the name of the journalist) is cancer in the german language. According to estimations they donated over 100k€ and it is still not over. Of course the organisations were not prepared for such an amount of donations what lead massive downtime of their servers. (some kind of positive ddos if that is possible?)

In the following Screenshot you can see the google trends timeline for the topic "Stiftung Deutsche Krebshilfe" to give you an rough idea of the impact this campaign had on their servers.

According to the german cancer aid this is one of if not the biggest donation campaign in history of german cancer aid.
