박쥐(The Bat). 노르웨이의 국민작가. 요 네스뵈(Yo Nesbø)의 첫 소설이다.
요 네스뵈는 한국에 '스노우 맨(snow man)'으로 잘 알려져 있다.
박쥐는 오스트레일리아를 배경으로, 주인공 '해리 홀레' 형사가 연쇄살인마에게 희생된 노르웨이 미녀 살인사건을
추적하는 내용이다. 좌충우돌하며 범인의 포위망을 좁혀가는 구성이, 오스트레일리아 원주민 전설과 맞물려 흥미와 실마리를 동시에 던져준다.

살기 좋고 아름다운 선진국이며 한국인들이 이민가고 싶어하는 나라 1위인 호주의 이면을, 북유럽인의 시선으로
거침없이 보여주기도 한다. 백인-원주민 혼혈 중 원주민은 압수해서 공장/농장에 노동자로 키우고, 백인으로 분류되는 혼혈아는 기숙사학교로 보내서 백인식 교육을 시킨 것이 대표적이다. 20세기에 이런일이, 그것도 선진국에서 2차대전후 부터 1970년까지 지속되었다니, 그저 놀랍다.

연쇄살인마를 추적하는 끝에 해리 홀레의 욕심과 부주의로 연인 '비르기타'가 살인마 소유의 요트 닻에 묶여 수장된 채 발견되고, 해리 홀레의 총에 맞은 '늘 가까이 있었던 살인마'는 호주 해변에서 백상아리의 먹이로 끝을 맞게 된다.
살인의 동기는, '잃어버린 세대'로 불리는 인종 차별정책의 희상자가 백인 여성에 대한 혐오와 복수에서 비롯되었다.
아이를 낳은 원주민여자에게 호주 정부에서 준 국가적 만행을 '아이를 낳지 않은 백인 여자를 살해'하는 것으로 되갚아 준 것이다.
Harry Holle's greedy and inattentive lover 'Virgita' was found trapped in a murderous yacht anchor, and Harry Holle's shotgun, 'Always near the killer', was traced to a white shark ' The end is met.
The motive for murder was derived from the abhorrence and revenge of the white woman, the nurse of racial discrimination policy called the 'lost generation'.

요 네스뵈의 '해리 홀레' 시리즈이 매력은 바로 '정의감에 불타는 형사'가 아니라는 것이다. 실제 지독한 알콜중독자이며 음주운전으로 동료 경찰을 죽음에 빠뜨렸고, 사건을 해결할 수록 '악인'이 되어간다.
charm of the "Harry Holle" series of Yo Nesbø is that it is not a "detective burning with justice." It is a real dreadful alcoholic, who drove his fellow cops to death by drunk driving, and the worse he became, the worse he was.

누군가가 그랬다. 스웨덴, 노르웨이로 대표되는 북유럽 미스테리 스릴러의 매력은 '눈(snow)'라고. 눈 내리는 겨울밤에 읽어야 좋다고. 그래서 이 책을 3월의 폭설(3.8.)부터 읽었다. 한국에서 요네스뵈의 가장 유명한 소설 눈(snow)를 봤던 때와는 달리,이미 겨울은 끝나서인지 읽는 내내 북유럽의 겨울이 막 펼쳐지거나 하지는 않았다.
호주 원주민의 전설이 흥미롭게 녹아있다. 그래서 호주를 잘 알거나, 잘 모르는 분들께 추천한다. 유색인종에게 결코 호락호락하진 않은 나라이다.

So I read this book from the March snowfall (3.8). Unlike the time when I read the most famous novel snow in Yo Nesbø in Korea, the winter of Northern Europe has not been unfolding or spreading throughout the reading.
The legend of Aboriginal Australians is intriguing. So I recommend it to those who know Australia well or do not know well. It is a country that has never reached the color of the race.
