"Well, I suppose so," he replied softly, offering no further explanation, as if he had no desire to boast.
Xiao Xiao, however, was not satisfied. Eagerly, she pressed on, "So, how did you become famous? Was it because you're the school heartthrob? Or because you always top the class? I think it must be a combination of both, right?"
Lu Yichen responded, "Not really the heartthrob, but academically, I do have my merits."
Xiao Xiao looked at him in surprise, her eyes wide. "You're not considered the heartthrob? But you're so handsome! If you're not, then... wait, could it be Yin Shaojie?"
Hearing the name, Lu Yichen narrowed his eyes and asked, "You know him?"
Xiao Xiao, oblivious to his subtle shift in expression, eagerly continued, "He’s really popular at school, right? I’ve heard he has a lot of girlfriends. You must know him too, even though you're in different grades. You're both well-known, after all."
"I know him, but we're not close," Lu Yichen replied, his tone turning somewhat cold.
He looked at her, his gaze sharpening with a hint of scrutiny. "He does have a lot of girlfriends. He’s a playboy—if a girl is pretty, he’ll chase her down. Do you like him?"
Xiao Xiao snorted. "What a flirt! I don’t like him at all!"
"Really?" His voice carried a note of surprise. When she mentioned Yin Shaojie, he had expected her to be another girl fawning over him, like so many others.
But now, as he looked into her eyes, he saw no signs of infatuation, no dreamy expression like the others wore when they spoke of him.
So perhaps what she said was true?
Xiao Xiao grinned mischievously, then said, "I don't like his type at all. If I had to choose, I think you're much better than him! What’s so great about him anyway? He’s just relying on his looks and wealth, and his personality is terrible. Whoever likes him is just asking for trouble!"
She stuck out her tongue to herself as she spoke.
If Yin Shaojie ever heard her talk like this, he would certainly make her regret it. So, she had to talk behind his back to vent her frustrations.

Her intentions were simple: she just wanted to befriend him. A handsome, intelligent scholar like him, and with such good chemistry between them—of course, she wanted to make friends with him.
